Aye, let me spin ya a yarn 'bout a fine supper at The Irons in Mystic, Connecticut — a port where land meets sea and the cookin’s as bold as the brine.
I dropped anchor with the Brick Chicken, and let me tell ya, this wasn’t no dry galley bird. We're talkin' a half roasted chicken, seasoned like a sea breeze through a spice market, with skin kissed just right by the oven's flame. The green beans? Snappy like a fresh mainsail in a stiff wind — not a soggy strand in sight. And them roasted potatoes? Golden and crisped to perfection like they’d been basted in a sailor's dream. Every bite stuck the landing.
Now my wife, she hoisted her fork to the Braised Short Ribs — rich, fall-apart tender, and cloaked in a sauce darker than a stormy Atlantic night. Served atop a bed of grilled asparagus that still had its sea legs — charred and bright with flavor — and more of those shipshape potatoes to round out the voyage.
Service was steady and warm, like a lighthouse glow in the fog. Plates came hot, timing was tight, and not a soul rushed us. The whole evening felt like a meal shared with old mates after a long journey home.
If ye find yerself wanderin' Mystic’s cobblestone streets, do yerself a kindness and make for The Irons. It’s hearty fare, done with care — a fine harbor for food lovers and hungry...
Read moreMy friends and I just had drinks. The waitress handed me the tab and when I wanted to pay, she was no where to be found. I went up to the bar and told him that I wanted to pay. He said he was going to get my waitress. I waited for a while and no one came out. Since I was in a rush, I decided to leave the money in cash with the tab, plus a tip. We lingered in the lobby area to take pictures, and after about 10 minutes, like 4 employees came out to the lobby area looking for us asking about the payment. I told them I left it on the table. However they said it wasn’t there. It seems someone had stolen it. I ended up paying it AGAIN. I the waitress said she saw the payment on the table, but just apologized that it was no longer there. So that I payed twice plus a little more. It was a terrible experience. They rushing out to the lobby area, they treated me as if I left without paying. Even though the waitress knew I had left the money, she didn’t offer any courtesy for the inconvenience. I will never go there again and I will not recommend this...
Read moreWe checked into the hotel and decided to just stay on site for dinner, we Walked into the restaurant and it took about five minutes for anyone to realize we were there waiting to be seated. Finally, a waitress came over and told us to sit anywhere. 15 minutes go by, all of the waitresses just kept walking by us, I finally walked up to the bar and asked them how We order, He said he would let the waitress know. She came over another five minutes later. So after being in the restaurant for a total of 25 minutes, we finally received menus. It took another 10 for her to come to take our order. We had two toddlers with us which as parent you know how crappy it is to bring them to a sit down restaurant. We ordered the kids food right away & drinks, the drinks came out wrong. My burger came back burnt but I didn’t realize until we got to the room, we decided to let the kids eat & just bring the adult meals boxed up right to the room. I was very disappointed at this whole experience. They really need some training...
