Well, another failure from Discount Tire. With a couple of bad post-sale experiences in another state, the only reason I gave them another shot here was because they were recommended by my mechanic shop (Christian Brothers) which has been beyond amazing with their service and honesty. Again the new tire process was good. Their prices were competitive (though $30 more than another reputable tire store) and their work was fast. The problem again occurred with their post-sale service.
Within 48 hours one of the tires was almost flat while it was only parked in my garage, so I called and scheduled an appointment (ads claim 30% faster service with an appointment). Since the new tire install was completed within one hour of dropoff I decided to stay for a simple tire check). Over an hour later, I still hadn't seen my vehicle move from parking to a bay. Worse yet, I observed a vehicle I watched pull in 15 minutes after I arrived (and parked 1 car away from me) get pulled into a bay while mine stayed in the parking lot. When I asked the person managing service he assured me mine was next. When I reiterated that this tire was flat without any driving after I returned from their store he attempted to explain it was more likely a nail than something faulty with the tire install.
I then explained that I had just waited longer for them to look at 1 tire than it took for them to install, balance, and mount 4 new tires. He again explained it was probably a nail. It took another 5-10 minutes for my vehicle to be pulled into a bay and then another 30 for it to be ready. The service manager then had the technician bring me the keys and explain that the problem was a faulty valve stem.
No apology from the manager for either a long service wait or for a poor install of the new tires. I would think that checking valve stems for leakage is part of the install process.
The final slap in the face was when I showed up to Christian Brothers for an alignment and they asked if I had my tires installed at Discount. When I said yes, they asked me for the coupon that Discount is supposed to give customers for alignments at Christian Brothers. I never was offered one (which you think would have happened since I told them Christian Brothers referred me) nor was I offered any kind of discount for a future tire purchase from Discount Tires. Most quality shops quickly offer those when their service falls so incredibly short.
Fortunately, Christian Brothers got me the alignment discount anyway. Frankly, without their consistently excellent service, I would wonder about Christian Brothers after being referred to what turned out to be a very dissatisfying experience with Discount Tires. Since they have NEVER let me down with their service, Christian Brothers still gets 6 out of 5...
   Read moreI recently called discount tire and spoke with Juan. I requested an appointment to have a specific set of tires installed in my car. I was looking for the cheapest tire that was around $86 since this was an older vehicle that I didnât plan on keeping for long so I didnât want to spend a ton of money on the tires. Juan immediately told me that he only had four more of those tires and they were on layaway for somebody else and I would have to buy the $150 a tire set. I said âCanât you just order more?â He said no. He was very short with me offering no other solution. I continued to ask if they were going to get more or if I could just order them online or if there was anything else I could do? He then said âWe have a truck shipment coming tomorrow, but have no way of knowing whatâs on it.â I said âSo youâre telling me I have to wait until tomorrow and call and see if you have more of these tires available and thereâs nothing else that I can do?â He said âYes.â And I told him I found that very odd, then ended the conversation. I told my boyfriend the story and he laughed and told me it was because I was a woman and I said âThereâs no way.â Ten minutes later, he called back and Juan answered the phone again. Juan immediately was very outgoing and attentive with him, asking him if he was a previous customer and giving him the whole spiel of everything they include and how they do price matching and just a completely different conversation and attitude than what I received. My boyfriend told him the vehicle info. and said he was just looking for a cheap set of tires. As I listened while they spoke on speaker phone, to my shock and disbelief, Juan told him he had a set of the exact tires I asked for and could get him in today. I was not only disgusted but really truly taken back by the fact that Juan so clearly just discriminated against me for being a female, trying to lie and upsell me and then 10 minutes later treated my boyfriend completely different. I called the manager , Chris to tell him what happened and Chris was extremely apologetic and told me that they do not treat people this way and he would be talked to. That was it. I still used them because Chris offered to get me in immediately and upgrade my tires if need be ( which did not happen because they magically found some of the cheap ones) but I still feel this was so disturbing that it warrants a review. Had a mishap last month with a giant pothole in Lancaster and of course, this time I didnât get the certificates (totally worth it driving here in the Carolinas). I was able to easily order all 4 online which were ready the next day for install. This was my first time using their mobile installation where they come to you and install the tires onsite which was a seamless process - couldnât recommend this more.
For just roughly $52 (tax included) they called me to schedule the installation, then on install day called me in the morning to confirm location, then called me again upon arrival which I did at my job. They called exactly 61 minutes later that it was all done, gave me back my keys and I was good to go. The two gents that handled the installation were just as nice and professional as the ones on the phone.
Itâs intended as a glowing compliment that I wasnât surprised at how awesome of a process it was. The people running this location have been doing an awesome job and for a long time theyâve kept that bar high, thatâs certainly saying something in todayâs world.
