This was my first time eating here. Walking in the restaurant was clean, especially for the amount of volume they had. The staff was professional looking and they had 3 hibachi cooks behind the counter cooking. I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken, like I have many times at various Japanese Steakhouses & Quick-Serve places. I have NEVER had a Japanese restaurant: #1 Serve dark meat chicken #2 Heavily coat it with a sauce with the consistency of BBQ Sauce. Upon getting my meal I tried one bite and immediately knew the heavy thick sauce was a cover-up for trying to pass off the dark meat. I called back to the restaurant and the cashier answered with, " Can you hold please?" and laid the phone down for 11 minutes and 20 seconds, ringing up back-to-back customers. As luck would have it, as I was walking in the door the cashier picked up. I returned my food and explained that I wanted white meat (chicken breast) and that the thick sauce was excessive and I just wanted grilled chicken breast, seasoning was fine , just not gobs of that thick sauce. A Latino woman interjected and instructed me to come to her, I assume she is a manager. I repeated the above while double and triple checking the menu to make sure this was not an error on my part. Instead of any kind of apology or concern or interest in customer service, she/ assumed manager began to let me know that Teriyaki is dark meat and Hibachi was white meat. A 4th or 5th time i checked on the menu and pointed out that information was NOT on the menu and that was my 1st time eating there AND NO WHERE ON THE MENU DID IT STATE DARK MEAT CHICKEN & AND I have eaten Japanese food for years all over and NEVER had a thick sauce drowning drark meat. The "manager" was adamant to point out this issue was my fault and came off argumentative, and proceeded to let me know all restaurants prepared their food differently- completely irrelevant and when I let her know the cashier had me on hold for 11 minutes 20 seconds.... she immediately began to let me know how this issue was my fault. Not one time was there any concern or customer service displayed. The cooks were listening to the conversation and prepared me chicken breast not drowning in the thick sauce. My plate was remade and appetite completely gone at this time. NO WHERE ON THE MENU IS DARK / WHITE MEAT SPECIFIED OR MENTIONED, and being my 1st and perhaps my last visit there, unless I worked there or was psychic there is NO WAY TO KNOW THAT ALL TERIYAKI IS DARK MEAT - PERIOD. Also, the excessive sauce appears to be deceptive to deflect that cheaper meat (dark) is being used in place of the standard white meat. THIS INFORMATION SHOULD BE CLEAR ON THE MENUS. THE Latino lady/ assumed manager may need a brush-up course on customer service, and needs to understand that arguing (or attempting to) with a customer is NEVER a solution and at some point in her life / career that accountability will be necessary. Another employee handed me the replacement plate and told me to have a nice day. Other than argue and point out the above the manager did not say anything else to me and was clearly aggravated with me. Clearly, this place is making money hand over fist and customer satisfaction or customer service is not a concern. I rated the place a 3 because I did not want to trash their rating but a 3 was generous, looking back 1-2 at best. The food is very mediocre and be your own...
Read moreThe food is okay. Personally it was just convenient for me to order at this location. I was starting to become a regular. However, I went inside to order on 12/4. The cashier was very friendly. It didn’t take long to receive my order. But once I received it I realized she rung me up for chicken and steak hibachi instead of the steak and shrimp hibachi . I brought this to her attention and she was very attentive and apologetic. She ensured me she would fix the issue. However, the cook overheard and immediately came over. You would think to fix the problem, right? Well he came over and asked do you want the chicken or shrimp ? I informed him the shrimp please like i originally ordered. So, he walks off and tosses shrimp on the ground and instructs the cashier to get my to go container off the counter and walks back over and instructs the cashier the cashier to ring me up for the shrimp ( which i guess was $1 more). Not only does he do that he hovers over the cashier to make sure she charges me. While it’s a line full of people behind me and the shrimp is in the back left attended cooking on the grill. He finally sees that she is charging me the $1 difference goes back to attend the grill while watching us like a hawk to make sure i make the payment. In the midst of all of this another employee clocks in and goes to the line sees my to go container and tells across the counter ma’am would you like broccoli with the rice and other veggies. I was thinking yes because it comes with it , was the chef so busy making sure i pay the $1 difference that he forgot to add the broccoli originally to the order? It just didn’t sit well with me that : Paying the $1 difference was made out more than it should be ( which i didn’t mind paying for). I was made to feel uncomfortable by the chef. ( The cashier was nice, friendly, apologized over and over for the mistake, and even offered to pay the extra dollar). The other staff member had just came in and was just confused. He was nice enough to realize i didn’t have broccoli unlike the original chef.
So, I don’t care how much of a convenience it is to patronize this location. I will not be back here. This whole ordeal made me feel uncomfortable as if I wasn’t a paying customer.
Btw this is all on the chef not the cashier or other coworker present. I wonder how many other customers has he done this to? I am a person of color by the way so idk if that was it? Maybe it looked like i wasn’t going to pay the difference, when I had already paid for my meal in the beginning. Who knows? But i do know I WILL...
Read moreService wasn't exactly fast. Prices were a bit high, but they made everything right there.
We ordered the hibachi steak/chicken, teriyaki chicken, and a spicy tuna roll.
The hibachi steak and chicken were pretty good. Steak wasn't the best I've had, but for the price it seemed about right. The chicken was also pretty tasty, but a bit on the salty side. The veggies were also a bit too salty, but I can excuse that. And the fried rice was pretty good. Not a bad meal for the price and convenience. But not excellent either.
The teriyaki chicken was a salt explosion. I LOVE excess salt and I couldn't stomach this dish. Neither could my wife, and she's even more of a salt nut than I am.
Then there was the sushi roll. We spit it out and threw it in the trash. I've literally had better sushi from a gas station. The sushi rice... wasn't. And while chopped tuna is pretty common for a spicy roll, this was more of tuna-like jelly mush.
I am highly unlikely to return to Miyabi Jr. There are a lot of other better options in the area and I'm willing to sacrifice the extra 5 minutes waiting for a...
