6 months ago I purchased a male Red Factor canary for $200. Paterson Bird store issued a certificate of purchase, which stated date of purchase and the sex of the bird. It was a beautiful, and healthy canary. I brought it home, and began playing quiet classical music to encourage 'Vanya' to enjoy his surroundings, and to mainly encourage him to sing. One week went by. And then another. Pretty soon, it was a month, and then followed by another month. Vanya was not singing. I was patient. I would hear chirping, and it sounded as though it were getting louder with evert chirp. Still no loud canary warble.

A family member made a comment that ......maybe it's a female canary?? Female canary's DO NOT SING!!

I called Paterson Bird store and inquired about their exchange policy, since I purchased a male, but in fact, it was a female canary instead.

Why didn't I come back within 30 days, they asked?

The canary was healthy, and it did warble, and I was being patient with my new friend, giving him time to adjust to his new home, I replied!

'Well, our store policy is 30 days for returns or exchanges' I was told!

'But, you sold me a female, and I was buying a male! You sold me a wrong bird!!

I would never again go back to Paterson Bird Store, again! Not for bird food nor to speak with anyone about their fraudulent sales! I found Pete's Bird Garden in West New York. Pete has a store full of Red Factor, and other canary's priced at $90. He listened to my problem, and sold me a beautiful male at $60, and discounted $30 in exchange for my female canary! just wanted to share an unsatisfactory experience I had at paterson bird store on 1/25/22. only bird store i know and been to this store many many times and never had an issue until this week. bought first cockatiel in 2013 (now have 3 birds) and been going there for food, boarding and trimming when necessary. had bought 3 food trays ($1.98 each) with food the last time i was there. trays wouldn't stay fixed in the cage so figured I'd return them the next time i go to buy food. so when i tried to return them the other day, young girl kept pointing to the sign that said receipt needed for returns. she said she needed it to look up in POS system. so I told her i could pull it up on my phone but she said paper receipt required. she was going to look up the sale anyways so couldn't understand why she couldn't look it up if i provided her with the exact time and the amount of transaction. credit card receipts only show total amount, not itemized. she kept on saying no returns without PAPER receipt. only $6 so didn't pursue any further. but left a sour taste in my mouth. i just think it's a bad customer service. i was only trying to get store credit for plastic, unused food trays. if you're the type who never keeps the receipt, this place isn't for you. or just buy the food like i will...

The Paterson Bird Store is one of the BEST bird stores I've seen! Their staff is very professional, knowledgeable, and extremely nice people!!! They have a wide array of birds (from small Finches all the way to large Parrots). I must commend them on how they treat their birds and their cages. Every time I've been there the bird's cages we're immaculately clean and they handle their birds gently and humanely! Even the layout of their store is top notch! They also sell a wide variety of bird seed that is specialized for each bird they sell. As well as a huge selection of bird cages and toys. If you are interested in purchasing a bird, and you are shopping around for the quality of bird and price, I would highly recommend visiting The Paterson Bird Store! It is a high quality one stop shop for EVERYTHING you need for your feathered friend! I could go on forever about how wonderful this store is!! I promise you that you won't be disappointed visiting their establishment!!! I am personally buying my Sun Conure there once it is weened of baby formula.
