We were on the fence about finishing the basement. Our 3rd child was on the way, and we were less than 6 months out, and decided we needed to either decide to do it ourselves, and potentially spend the next 1 to 3 years doing it, and potentially still having to bring in a plumber, an HVAC guy, and/or an electrician, or, see what kind of quotes we could get.
Up front, we decided if we were going to pay someone to do it, they were getting the permits, they were going to come up with the design that matched the rest of the house, and share actual blueprints with us, they were going to stick to a timeline, and most importantly, they would need to manage the process for us (I didn't want to call and pay and manage all of the different vendors myself, or harass them if they didn't show when they were supposed to.
We got 5 quotes, seeking above standards, to build a living room w/ gas fireplace, 1/2 bath, bedroom, and storage room.
Quote 1 - About half what we ultimately spent. No permit. Cash only. Needed to pay each contractor separately. 6-8 month commitment. Quote only voice, no documentation.
Quote 2 - about 10k less than we ultimately spent. Promised to be able to meet our requirement within 6 months, but we would have to pull permit.
Quote 3 - Quote we ultimately took with Cabinetree. Came out with whole crew, every contractor/vendor at one time to see the space, talk to us. Itemized, detailed, line item quote. With draft blueprint and 3D renderings, including lighting, electrical, HVAC plans. Discussion to make tweaks. Once we agreed on price, no overages even if changes after, that was the quote and all set.
Quote 4 - Similar price. Ballpark, never came to look at our place, and didn't show to our meeting.
Quote 5 - About 10-20k less. Gentlemen said he would do all the work himself. If we wanted him to pull permits, it would be extra. Said he would bring blueprints, but brought some rough sketches on paper. Said this was a side gig so it would probably take him 9-10 months.
Ultimately, we went with Cabinetree. Upon signing, the demo began within a few days. Permits pulled. Basement looks exactly like the rest of the house. Project completed on time, on budget. My wife and I literally did nothing in the process other than write checks when reaching agreed to milestones, and give feedback for minor tweaks while basement started to take shape. It was a fantastic experience, and changed our opinion of the contracting/build/design field. We give our highest...
Read moreWe chose The Cabinet Tree to do a kitchen and bath remodel after researching and meeting with at least five other companies. It was the right choice in every way! The contract and work schedule was flawlessly presented in a binder. The owner Chris Draeger has the gift of employing excellent dedicated and skilled professionals in each trade. The designer Kristian was an absolute delight to work with. She was patient, knowledgeable, creative, and flexible. I cannot praise highly enough the finish carpenters, the tile guy, the electricians, the plumbers, the painter, and the wood flooring team. Chris was willing to accommodate last minute changes and special requests. We were going to do the painting and changed our minds. He had a high end paint company in a day. The carpenters built a Shaker peg rail down a long hallway and put up old barn boards on a wall in a utility room that were unusual requests. Chris is caring of his employees and his customers. Chris is the ONLY owner of any company I have ever worked with that will directly reply to e-mails or calls right away. That alone shows the value he places on his customers and reputation of his company. I think there should only be one remodeling company. The Cabinet Tree! A review done by a very particular customer that was...
Read moreFrom start to finish, I can’t say enough wonderful things about Cabinetree. They really made the whole process of a remodel as stress-free as possible. We really enjoyed working with Kristian on the design aspect, I really appreciate that she was not afraid to give her opinion and explain the reasoning behind her opinion to help guide us in our design choices. We have an old Tosa home and wanted to stay true to its character and not have a new kitchen feel out of place, and I really feel like they understood that.
As for the remodel process, they gave us a binder with an exact timeline broken down to the week and the day that said who would be at the house and what they were working on and planning to accomplish. They stand true to the timeline and the project was completed on time, with one exception being our backsplash (which is my absolute favorite part!) that was on backorder, but that did not affect the function of our kitchen and we were able to move back in on time.
Overall, I am so happy with this kitchen, I am constantly appreciating how functional and beautiful it is. I would definitely recommend The Cabinetree for any remodel needs!
