Fortunoff Backyard Store — Local services in Town of Clarkstown

My experience could not have been better. We got a great deal on a teak double extension table with 8 chairs from Veronica at the Nanuet store (the manager). Shortly after we placed the order the supply chain had a Covid moment and backed up on us but Veronica found a table, then she found 5 chairs and had just those delivered (because we had given away our old set once we had ordered trusting “the process”) - special trip - but promising to somehow find 3 more. She then located 2 and then finally 1, more and had them delivered too - another special trip. As it turned out, the table had slight, but apparent, damage on a corner. She offered to replace it free of charge but it seemed like such an expense for Fortunoff to replace the table (another special trip AND a damaged return), so I offered to accept the damage and swap the cushions I had for an upgrade. I thought: “When was the last time I had any positive feeling for the welfare of a retailer?!” She needed approval from “above her pay grade”, but sought and got it - something that made great sense for everyone but how often is a big, retail business actually (not just philosophically) about that? Another week passed and apparently the cushions too were hard to locate but then she called me out of the blue and said she would deliver the cushions personally to us on her day off - or maybe after work? - in the next 2 days (because I’d waited so long already) directly to my house - more than an hour from her house! I was incredulous at the offer and the told her that it wasn’t necessary for her to do that - but she insisted. She made a sale; she made a customer; and, she created good will for the company - turning what easily could have been a huge negative into a whopping positive - what more can an employer ask? Update: My husband and I just went back to Fortunoff to buy another seating/dining set for the lanai in our condo. Once again, we were very happy with our shopping experience at the Backyard Store in Nanuet! Nader and Sherif spent a great deal of time helping us to explore different possibilities for our relatively small space. At no time did we feel rushed or uncomfortable, even as we moved furniture around and switched out the pillows, etc. Nader & Sherif were very patient and it was a pleasure to work with them. I would absolutely recommend Fortunoff to anyone looking to purchase quality outdoor furniture with lots of options.

I am so pleased with my recent purchase at Fortunoff Backyard Store in Nanuet, NY. Our salesman, Terry, has been extremely helpful and patient. We needed a pretty big set, to seat 8 preferably, and some of the powder coated aluminum sets were originally priced in the high $4,000s! Even on sale, we couldn’t afford them. We spotted a floor sample that looked like the Trex decks, the composite-type decks that are basically plastic, and it came with 8 smallish armchairs in rattan, and we bought the umbrella, too. The table had some scratches, it was a floor sample after all, but the price was right, we’re not millionaires! Today the set was delivered and I was bewildered by why the movers were putting the table together from scratch. Why didn’t they just put the floor sample on the truck and deliver it assembled? When they brought the table up, it was UNSCRATCHED! The delivery man said they found a new table in the back of the store and gave me that one. I was floored.
