Why You Should Move to Verizon
After 23 years of loyalty to Optimum as a cable/internet and mobile phone customer, I was ready to leave them. Their internet service had become more unstable, their phone service didnât allow me comfortable international service and my monthly charges were always changing. I was ready for a change.
So on October 10, I walked into my nearby Verizon store (130n Rt 303, West Nyack,NY) and met with Marcus, on the Verizon staff. He was welcoming and took his time to get to know me and exactly what I was looking for. First we talked about the mobile side , keep my phone?, get a new one?, and then the network side. When I was starting to feel overwhelmed Marcus wisely suggested that we should work on the mobile side for the day, but the managers, Dennis and Doris, were listening and chatting about me and when they offered me a new customer deal I couldnât refuse I went for it all!
The Fios side was easy, Marcus set me up with a home appointment for the next morning and at first it seemed that I would be leaving with my phone moved to Verizon as well, Verizon but no, there was a wrinkle that would take a month to smooth out. Marcus warned me that I would have to wait for Optimum to unlock my iPhoneâs Sim but he was sure it would only take 24 hours at most and I left without finishing the process, without a working cell phone. When nothing happened in the next 24 hours I was back to the Verizon store and now Doris was working with me to get Optimum to unlock my phone and now they extended the wait time to a week. Over the next few days I got to know a lot about this issue of unlocking phones digitally and there was nothing smooth about this process. How about a month!
It was tough without cellphone service. Sure, I could still use my phone when I had wifi and I could make calls with Whatâsapp but I was off without my phone. I spent many hours on a stool at the Verizon store, many hours on the phone with Verizon techs and they were always supportive and kind. I canât say the same about the Optimum staff both on calls and in their local store. Of course I was leaving them but there should have been some common courtesy after my 23 years with them.
The Verizon store staff knew I was leaving for a trip very soon and made sure I had a backup phone to use. Dennis and Juan came to my rescue.
Finally, when I had given up on opening my phone and I was ready to buy a new one, Optimum came through and opened my phone. The bottom line for me was the customer service of Verizon, the team of Dennis, Doris, Juan and Marcus and Verizon online as well. It took a ridiculous amount time but in that month of stress, time after time it was the Verizon team in the Verizon store in West Nyack, NY who were caring and compassionate and supportive.    Read moreWent in and was not acknowledged. We had to walk around to see who we can speak to. There were a lot of employees. Not one raised their head to put us in queue or say they would be right with us. We then said okay let's go over to this worker that is on the computer to see how we can be helped. She was not with a customer. She put us in queue. A gentleman who worked there as nice as can be walked up to us and spoke to us and asked us what were were there for, but was still helping another customer. We waited. Two couples came in behind us and were helped immediately. The gentleman who was tasked with helping us was still tied up with the couple he was helping and it looks like they hadn't even began to buy a phone and or hadn't even begun their transaction. This same customer he was helping said I'm going to make a phone call real quick and was on the phone with someone for about 10-15 minutes. When the second couple came in and was helped immediately my husband said you know what let's go. Another worker came up to us and said oh what's your name? I said my name and he said yea but the good thing is you are still in queue. I said but honestly we are not being helped and two couples came in here after us and they are being helped. We are still standing here waiting to be helped. The and we were walking towards the door, he said oh but I was going to tell him to help you. I said no thank you. That was that and we left. This experience makes absolutely no sense. To have people wait who were there before everyone else and not be helped. Why would we be helped by someone who was still helping someone else and not someone who was free? This has happened to us a lot in Verizon stores. I've been a customer for more than 20 years. Went from a $40prepaid plan to a new contract account, was told my first bill was gonna be prorated which I was expecting, NO PROBLEM WHAT SO EVER!! went in on Black Friday, got an excellent black Friday deal, walked outta the store with a brand new phone, come to find out only worked on speaker phone #1, was never tested or programmed prior to leaving store, #2, walked out with what was supposed to of been a promotional "black Friday deal Moto g6 free phone" get my first bill, prorated wasn't even the words for it, my bill was $496.93, activation fees, taxes (which I paid in the store myself and have the receipt for) somehow I ended up having some other customers accessories THEY WERE TO HAVE BILLED TO THEIR OWN ACCOUNT THAT DAY IN THE STORE BILLED TO.MY ACCOUNT, ADDING AN ADDITIONAL $186.36, PLUS MY OWN BILL OF $90/MONTH TIMES 2 CAUSE YAH KNOW IT'S 2 MONTHS SINCE ITS PRORATED. I WENT FROM $40/MONTH PREPAID TO AN ALMOST $500 BILL NOT EVEN 1 FULL MONTH INTO HAVING MY NEW CONTRACT SERVICE WITH VERIZON!!! THEY'RE CROOKS, I SWITCHED AWAY FROM VERIZONS CELL PHONE SERVICES IMMEDIATELY, ALMOST $500 WHAT ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!
Mind you this AGAIN was black Friday, so it was a BIG COMMISSION DAY FOR THIS PARTICULAR VERIZON WIRELESS EMPLOYEE, BUT NOT ON MY DIME IT WASN'T!!!!
