I really didn't want to have to write this but I will feel really irresponsible if I don't.
I would like to start out saying the staff at this store is wonderful and super helpful, the prices are fair, and they have a huge selection. I still plan on continuing to shop here.
But the thing is I bought a baby girl white rat from this Country Max less than two weeks ago and she started out very sneezy and wheezy as soon as I brought her home. I am aware of what Myco is but I was hoping this was just a little cold that would go away on it's own. She ended up meeting my four adult boys through the bars of her cage and they all instantly fell very ill. I lost my boy Borris within a few hours of showing respiratory illness when he went into full blown respiratory distress and either his heart or lungs stopped :'( The other boys were pretty bad off but I was lucky to get them on Baytril and Amoxi just in time. They had never shown any symptoms prior to this.
I can't say the same for the poor little girl though. She is currently dying in my arms and seems to be having trouble breathing. I don't think she will make it through the night. I've tried giving her amoxi as well and Baytril is out of the question because she is under three months old. I bought Roxy from Country Max while she was sick (although I couldn't tell at first) and now she is suffering due to this sickness. I understand pet stores have no control over the health of their pets but if I can help prevent a family from experiencing the kind of pain I am going through I would definitely...
Read moreThis store has a fantastic selection and friendly service; however, I sadly must question the care of the small animals in their possession. My husband and I were interested in a guinea pig recently, and when we stopped into the store for the second time (as we were considering purchasing him), the associate went to pick him up and he was immediately lethargic and laying on his side afterwards. It took us calling the associate back to inform them that the guinea pig did not appear well, at which point they took him into isolation. His nasal passages were visibly clogged and his breathing was distressed. I left my name and number and requested a status update on the guinea pig either way, which they acknowledged, and never heard back from anyone. I can only assume the poor fella didn't make it. I own several small animals (all which have come from adoption centers to-date), and understand some are susceptible to illness at birth/very young ages. Additionally, I understand some stores carry animals from questionable breeders. I am surely hoping CountryMax is doing business with reputable breeders, and this was a one-off occurrence. However, after this experience, I am saddened by what we observed, and simply wish I heard back from a management member about the status of...

So I took my dog in to use the dog wash and waited in line. First, someone comes out of the office and takes the guy behind me in line without even acknowling me. Then when I get into the dog wash area, the water quickly got too hot. The handle only turned the hot water on and off, it doesn't lower the temperature.
There is no intercom or button to summon help in the room, so I walked out looking for someone. No one in sight. I didn't want to leave my dog in there to go to the counter, so I stood in the main aisle and waived my arms to get the cashiers attention. I yelled down that I needed help. I heard her over the intercom page someone.
And then I waited. And waited. And waited. No one ever came. No one bothered to check and see if we were ok.
Thankfully I figured out that I could pull the handle off the hot side and move it to the cold side. I finished her bath and as I was leaving told the cashier how ridiculous it is that there are no signs letting people know to do this, how no one came to check on us, and how lousy their customer service is.
For all they know, it could have been a...
