Good evening, I wanted to bring attention to a serious matter that happened to myself and my 2 children today.
While parked on Dunbarton Rd, next to the JCC park, I was approached and asked to move by a representative of your Community Center.
When I asked why, I was told that it was due to what was happening in the world.
I was told that her boss is the one who told her to tell me to leave, and that I could speak with the boss. I advised that I didn't need to speak to either of them as I was simply parked, not doing anything.
I advised that I was just parked, as I didn't want to illegally drive while on the phone. I also advised that I could move to the other side of the road.
Within a minute, a cop approached my vehicle and called for a Sargent to come. Both were present the entire time and only came over due to the request of the JCC staff.
With the cop at my window, and the Sargent parked behind my car, I was told how they (JCC) have been previously victimized and want me to leave, and that I had flat out refused.
I clarified with the officer that that was a LIE. The officer actually CONFIRMED that it IS OK to park on the other side of the road. It was JCC that wanted me to leave the public road since people take pictures of them. (Not Us)
I advised that I could park on the other SIDE of the road, and had no problem doing so. However, the officer now stopped me and advised that I now had to show ID.
I was told that since I am operating a vehicle, and interacted with the police, I am required to show my license. I was parked and had already advised that I could move to the other side of the road. I was then told that they at least needed to run my name and DOB through the system to make sure everything "checked out".
Ultimately, the Sargent ran my plates, saw that everything was up to date and didn't say much after.. by then I had given the officer my ID and asked for names and ID #'s (which Officer Jackson initially refused)
My companion, who was walking, and who mentioned the ridiculousness of the whole ordeal .... Was also asked to now ID THEMSELVES!
I'm furious that the "safety of the JCC staff", because other people took pictures, was discussed... but not the criminalization of myself and my children. Not to mention the trauma of a cop approaching our vehicle while sitting there, doing absolutely nothing.
I was repeatedly told that the issue was that the staff wanted me to leave and the staff stated that I said I'm not leaving.
I was also told by Officer Jackson that EVERY CAR THAT PARKS ON DUNBARTON RD ARE QUESTIONED AND ID'D. I find that hard to believe, especially while multiple people were in the park and walking by, and my children and I seemed to be the only ones setting off alarms.
I am disgusted by the JCC staff who lied and requested police to approach my children and I on a public road. The privilege of feeling safe goes both ways. We were harassed, lied on, lied to, and singled out. MANY lessons were taught.. ...
Read moreMy daughter absolutely loves this summer camp! She’s attended another camp in the area with a similar model, but I have to say this one is run so much better. The staff are organized, friendly, and make every camper feel welcome from day one.
What really stands out is how they allow younger campers to take part in more individualized classes—it’s such a great way for kids to explore their interests early on. My daughter comes home every day excited to tell me what she learned and what she’s looking forward to next.
She especially loves the swim lessons and field trips, which are always fun, safe, and well-planned. The hours are also perfect for working parents, with convenient before- and after-camp care.
I can’t recommend this camp enough—it’s a wonderful place where kids can learn, grow, and have an amazing...
Read moreI have been a member of the JCC for several years and have had great experiences working with personal trainer Will and the support staff. He is attentive to my training needs and limitations. I always look forward to the sessions as they provide a boost to my energy level and ability to successfully manage my to do list and multi-task throughout the day. I can strongly recommend having a trial session with any of the trainers at the JCC and I believe others will agree that these sessions are a valuable addition to our...
