I was walking down New York Ave. today when I noticed a familiar man in a face mask dressing a mannequin in the front of the store.
The man was Bob Fox, the owner, who also happens to be my first employer going back about 20 years when I had worked at Fox's in Huntington, and Mineola where my mother was a long-time manager.
I couldn't believer after all these years that I would look in a window and see Bob working on the floor at his own store, but then again it really didn't surprise me. I watched Bob run an incredible family business in my younger years and was always impressed by the way he treated his staff and customers.
I had to pop my head in and say hello. We had a really nice short conversation, and my girlfriend and I continued into the store to shop.
A short time later, while on line to checkout with a single item that my girlfriend was going to buy... Bob walked over and gently took the item from her, only to return a moment later with a shopping bag containing the item and a smile. A very small gesture to give her a gift, and I almost felt guilty accepting it. He insisted and cited how much my mother had done for them over the years working at Fox's.
Being in business myself years later, Bob probably doesn't know that I drew inspiration from watching his success with Fox's. His kind gesture all these years later was a reminder of the kind of business man he was and still is.
We'll certainly be back to support this great business... plus, my girlfriend saw a lot of other stuff...

A lot of the brands are European so you can find the sizes to be more truthful rather than sifting through clothing that has vanity sizing. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming but not overbearing. And when you need help they are right there to provide you with what you need. I like that the dressing room offers a great selection of under garments and scarves to pair with your selection. My only issue is that there is no privacy in the dressing room. There are no curtains on the stalls. In the stalls there is barely any coverage for you to hide away and change without being seen by others. I understand that it may be that way to prevent people from stealing and to guarantee a sale. However, I cant help but feel the complete lack of privacy is a disrespect to the shoppers. To sum it up. If your looking for a great selection of style, sizing, prices and accessories, Fox's is for you. But come prepared if you plan on using the...
Read moreNot a fan of department stores as they all seem to have similar items and are overwhelming but when you come to Fox's boutique you will find tons of cool, edgy heavily discounted pieces most of which from designers not commonly known (European too!) but oftentimes unique & interesting. The sales help are always available, while perusing the store, to hang up your piles of clothing draped over your arm, in the open-stall dressing rooms and if you need another size they will willing retrieve it. Which Fox's is the better shopping experience between Mineola and Huntington? Huntington wins! Here's why: ease of navigating the racks, better layout and lighting, & the staff is much nicer/friendlier/helpful. And there's always a little snack at the husband hangout, to keep your energy up while...
