Handmade and More — Local services in Town of New Paltz

Stopped by Handmade & More on a recent trip to New Paltz. This shop has been in town for many decades & I always love browsing the unique gifts. It seems there's less hand crafted things & more cutesy things manufactured overseas. The giftware is primarily the same things they've always had. I am thrilled with the purchases made & know they'll be appreciated but feel Handmade needs to live up to their name & stock more truly hand crafted pieces. I purchased several pieces of hand crafted pottery as holiday gifts. As always they gift wrapped my purchases then asked if I wanted a bag to carry my purchases for an additional 5 cents. I was guilty for leaving my reusable shopping bags in the car. I understand & support the legislation that requires bags be paid for, but believe when a customer's spent several hundred dollars, the shop should absorb the cost of supplying a bag. We've been buying gifts for family and friends from Handmade for years now. Their selection is consistently changing making this quaint shop a must see when looking for a special piece for a special person. Their service is friendly, helpful, never pushy and always appreciated.

We recently purchased three large pieces of pottery that we needed to ship across country. We definitely stressed about it arriving in one piece (well three pieces actually, lol). The gift wrapping was done with the knowledge that it was going to see some rough handling in the delivery system. Bottom line, everything arrived unscathed, in perfect condition. Handmade is a great shop. They have a huge selection of items that changes often enough that you can always find something new, even if you go often. I try not to buy gifts last minute, but Handmade always comes through when I put myself in that position! I've gone in there many times expecting to find something suitable, and ended up leaving with something perfect.
