My boyfriend and I just came from DXL. We went there to shop for a suit that he needs to wear to an upcoming gala for work. This review is NOT about the store itself or the clothing. A woman named Elsie with an Australian accent and brown hair assisted us and I'm certain she is management. Firstly, she was very pushy and short in an abrasive way. She was not personable or actually helpful but projected her personal opinions onto our choices. Although we told her we were either looking for gray or navy blue she insisted on trying other colors and textures. I mentioned the suit and shirt were to match my dress. When she asked me what color my dress was and I told her she insinuated that it was the wrong color for both my boyfriend and I. She talked down to us as if we were clueless or stupid and I sensed strong judgment coming from her. Then what really irked me was the unsolicited commentary and advice she gave my boyfriend about his jeans. She stated in a very snarky tone that they were too loose and he needs to buy a slimmer leg but larger waistband. What she doesn't know is my boyfriend just dropped about 40lbs and is working with what he has in his wardrobe at the moment.
I want to stress that bigger guys have a much harder time shopping than bigger girls as the choices are limited and the inclusivity we usually find at places like DXL was just not there. My boyfriend has thick skin and great confidence but had he been someone else who struggled more with his self esteem or appearance this situation could have been much different. Elsie was demeaning and exhibited an elitist attitude. She was rude to us and the two gentlemen who were working alongside her. She was demeaning to us and talked to her employees like they were dogs. She was specifically harsh to Lushano the other employee to the point where I'm sure he was embarrassed. I feel so sorry for anyone who has to work with her or under her. She is miserable.
I'm very disappointed in the customer service we did not get and I'm disappointed in the treatment we received as well as what we witnessed. This is a store my boyfriend patrons frequently and we have never had this experience before. We are even more disappointed because we have been very excited about this event and this was supposed to be a pleasant and...
Read moreThe DXL Tysons Corner VA experience is the most pleasant clothes-buying visit I've had in a long time. I purchased a number of suits and accessories. As in perhaps all retail stores, they are under staffed. However, the sales staff were very attentive and worked with the customers in a round-robin timeshared fashion (each customer takes a turn in sequential fashion to receive an amount of time and attention) which actually worked out quite well. At no time did I feel forgotten or ignored in favor of someone else. I drove 50 miles one-way to get to DXL because of their large stock. Their selection was impressive in quantity, quality, and brand diversity. I was very pleased with the purchase experience, In particular, Joe, my salesman, provided very good advice and enabled me to understand their brand positioning, associated cost, quality, current styling, and so forth. I was a bit concerned that being in super-crowded Tysons Corner VA, parking would be hard to find. But plenty of parking was available in the same building, just a short walk and an elevator ride away. Finally I was very pleased that they recommended alterations by a tailor I'm experienced with in Leesburg (Lansdowne Town Center). Surprisingly, prices were reasonable, actually somewhat less than I have been paying elsewhere, for example, at a store in Oakton. In conclusion, an excellent clothes-buying experience. Will definitely buy again. Looking forward to my next visit for summertime. ...
Read moreMy shopping experience at the Tyson’s DXL for the past several years is abysmal at best. Not because of the staff there but because of the leadership at DXL! This is the nation’s capital where the business attire is suits. But the selection at DXL is poor. No Jack Victor who offers suits with a better cut and look for big and tall men. Also, the clothing selection is poor. To provide an example the DXL in New Orleans offers a better selection than the DXL in Tysons. That shouldn’t be. The DXL in Tysons should be the trend setting store with a selection of clothing for big and tall men that is second to none. Stop with the Harbor Bay as that selection is really not that good. There is other clothing that is much better. Let me give another example dress shirts. I have a line of shirts (George Foreman) that I have had for nearly 20 years that is much better than what is being offered now. The executives need to get out of their comfort zone come out talk to the customer to see what type of items DXL should have. There should be an array of clothing at Tysons from business to casual that provide the big and tall customer a wide variety to...
