ASK DETAILED HISTORY QUESTIONS... From reviews and my experience - people seem frequently surprised by the real condition of their "to be" pet. I believe they spend more time vetting you - than providing you with the complete medical info on the cat your are drawn to adopt. I was told of my cat's thyroid issue and need for life long meds and check - ups, which was good. But they told me the meds cost $10 a month vs. the $20 I found out when I refilled the prescription AT THE PHARMACY they had used. That's 2x - and frankly would have been a deciding factor. (a small one, but it was the beginning of misleading me). I felt I'd be given his pertinent history. WRONG. After I had chosen and was paying for my new friend, they gave me his med records - ok. I gave them to the Vet I had chosen and only lightly looked them over. As he wasn't due for an actual visit soon. I thought things were fine. 2 1/2 months later - the very problem that he was returned for - blocked bowel issues came up again. Took him to the (great vet) and got the bad long term news for my fella. For the record, I'm quite smitten with the cat, but now am attached to a cat with far greater needs than I would have chosen. I have written several times (to compliment the cat) but also with concerns - they have never written back or acknowledged me. He was poorly groomed (large hair mats I'm going to have removed - didn't know they could be a problem) and I feel that they were shady about his past (rushed it by me, when making my decision). I think the facility was nice, the volunteer staff friendly - but my initial vetting was uncomfortable and judgmental. The second lady I dealt with was wonderful. I called ...

We visited to see if any cats or kittens were a good match for us. The staff were all very nice and seemed to keep the cats best interests in mind. We met a cat and were interested in adopting her.
We had an approved application, and tried to contact Angels Wish to set an adoption date. My wife called and sent several emails to Lois with no follow up. I emailed the general email address, and received an email back an hour or two later. Lo and behold, it was Lois. I replied that we had attemped to contact her. She contacted my wife to arrange the adoption date.
When we went to pick her up, she scratched and tried to bite my hand. We have two young kids, so we decided that this was not the cat for us. I have no ill will toward the cat, as she was probably scared.
Upon telling my wife about being scratched, Lois forced herself into the conversation and asked what "I had done" to cause the situation. I asked her what she meant by that, as I was simply petting the cat inside of her cage. I have had several cats and understand their body language. She said that this wasn't the cat for us, and that I was obviously I need no condition to adopt a cat (I was angry about her implication). I excused myself from the situation and went to wash my hand.
My wife continued to look around to see if any of the other cats fit the bill. She asked about two of them, and Lois indicated that they were both "terrible" despite what they wrote in the description. It was obvious at that point that she did not want to allow us to adopt a cat, so we left.
TLDR: I had a similar experience to others in regard to Lois. I gave one star for the other staff. She has no business working...
Read moreThis is on behalf of my friend who is too polite to say anything publicly however I don't consider it ill mannered to speak about those who needlessly treat others rudey and think it's perfectly fine. It's not.
Most of the folks here are very nice however one of the adoption coordinators Lois, who's also one of the founding members of Angels Wish, doesn't fall into that category. She seems to have a pattern of treating people like they are suspicious and comes across like she is on a power trip with her ability to approve and deny applications.
My guess is that more cats and kittens would have perfectly lovely homes if others were handling the applications. My buddy filled one out awhile back and it took a long time for Lois to respond. When she finally did she still hadn't processed the short application or checked the reference provided. Honestly why would this take weeks on end to do. She also doesn't need to cope an attitude and act like she's being bothered when asked for a status update.
Being one of the founding members you would think her demeanor would be more pleasant wih prospective adopters and her ability to process applications in a timely manner the standard. Clearly on both accounts it's not.
Lois, please work on your poor customer service skills and if you haven't the time to complete an application within three weeks perhaps you may want to consider sharing your work load with other members of the team.
Your conduct is doing a disservice to the animals in need of good homes as well as to the people who choose this organization out of the many...
