A Mixed Experience.
During my recent visit to Platos Closet, I noticed they had a diverse selection of items and played an enjoyable variety of music. However, my recent visit highlighted some service issues that need addressing.
As a person of color, I noticed that all the staff members appeared to be caucasian women. Upon entering, I made eye contact with a cashier dressed in an updo, a nude hoodie, and tight nude booty-shorts. She looked away without acknowledging me, while the other staff continued working. Despite this, when an older Caucasian man entered shortly after me, he received enthusiastic greetings and eye contact from the staff.
I brought in a bag of about 30 items, all freshly washed and neatly folded. The store notified me within six minutes of drop-off that they had finished processing my items. While browsing, a staff member wearing an oversized shirt or hoodie and blue jeans kindly asked if I needed assistance, which I appreciated.
When I returned to the register, the initial cashier informed me that all my items were outdated. Given that I saw outdated clothing on their racks and knew that at least half of my items were current, I suspect they did not thoroughly inspect my items. Everything remained neatly folded as I had left them, suggesting minimal handling.
The reviews for other Platos locations in Grand Rapids reflect similar experiences, and this store did not prove to be an exception, especially when it comes to the overall service provided and handling/assessment of items.
In conclusion, while Platos has a good selection of items and pleasant music, their service needs improvement to ensure all customers feel welcomed and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been to many platos closets all over the country... I know this one is new, but needs quite a bit of improvement. I was never greeted when I came in when others were. I had to ask to use a fitting room when others were approached and asked if they needed one. I don't look unfriendly.. I'm a little bit older and don't meet the demographic, but it seemed like they were hesitant to talk to me?
I brought items in to sell and nobody was working on the buy counter for the first 25 minutes I was there. Possibly a shift change? But even when new employees came in there was hardly anyone going through items! Seemed like on person was sorting/entering while everyone else was talking or walking around. One employee even mentioned how overstaffed they were ...which makes the fact that all of this happened even worse.
My buy was in a standard size tote while others were in bags. I was quoted a time of 45 minutes which ended up being 1.5 hours. PEOPLE WHO CAME IN AFTER ME HAD THEIR ITEMS GONE THROUGH BEFORE MINE. WHY? Because they seem to fit your demographic? Not cool. I was given $10 for 2 items you wanted to purchase. Also, I took the same bin over to Uptown cheapskate where they gave me $80 for my items. I found items to purchase at this Platos, but after my experience I would never come back here. I felt profiled and the customer service...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLove platoās. The employees at this location need a SERIOUS customer service talk. (how to be better at it). Multiple times now iāve come in to purchase, wrung up my the same lady with long braids. First time she was eavesdropping on her coworkers conversation and trying to chat with them WHILE iām in front of her face being wrung up. No āhowās your day?ā, āhowās your shopping experience?ā NOTHING. itās rude and disrespectful. The second time I needed a refund because she was so distracted that she forgot to put a discount on items that required it. that SAME purchase I had to go back and get the metal tag taken off my shorts because she forgot!!! I get that yaāll are young and donāt really care how youāre perceived but the customer service seriously sucks and pushes me to drive almost 30 minutes to a different...
