Disappointed. New to Grand Rapids and just moved close by to here. Ordered take out on a Wednesday night. Lady on the phone was pleasant. Simple order; 1 Steamed Dumpling, 1 Fried Dumpling, 1 Egg Roll, 1 Crab Cheese (wonton). Lady told me 20 minutes. I arrived 5 minutes early at 5:15pm. Place not busy inside, less than half the tables full, most are eating. I was greeted promptly by a waitress and told that my order was being "bagged up", and just waiting on the dumplings. She asked if I wanted to pay now and replied, "Yes.". While checking out with her, in the front vestibule which is separate from the dining area, she stated that she was busy today with take out orders and dealing with bugs in the kitchen. ? What. She stated that since it was hot outside, bugs were coming in thru the back door. Not the best thing to tell a customer right? I suggested getting one of those Blue Light traps you see often, draws them in. She then said, "Back in a few minutes." I didn't see anyone again for another ten minutes. My 20 minute order is now at 30 minutes and counting. Another customer came for her take out order, a different waitress came and stated that "they are bagging up your order now". So that is apparently a canned phrase they use on Take out orders. I inquire about mine and she says the other waitress is bringing it up now. 8 more minutes pass and my order finally arrives. My 20 minute order took nearly twice as long 38 minutes. So slow service, no apology for that, and the mention of bugs in the kitchen. That alone will prevent me from coming back. Now the food, awful. The steamed dumplings are too huge and chewy. Not light at all. The fried dumplings were like rubber, so thick. The egg roll (only one choice) has hamburger & chicken in it, the hamburger tasted funny. The Crab cheese (fried crab cheese wontons) barely had a smear of crab cheese in the wonton, no flavor. Very disappointing overall. We will look for a different take out Chinese place. Check out...
Read moreI hope you have a couple minutes to read a little about my selling to different Chinese restaurants about 30 years. I met the owner, Richard, in 1989. He set a standard of quality unmatched in West Michigan. Beef Always purchased USDA choice from me. Any other Chinese restaurant used a lower grade and soaked it in baking soda to tenderize it. This results in the outside of the piece being mushy. Chicken Used large whole birds and processed immediately upon arrival. I have had to personally run half a ton of chicken over to his location in a company vehicle if a truck delivery was delayed. 3.Shrimp Used non-injected natural product. Most shrimp is soaked in sodium polyphosphate. ( Read any shrimp label in your grocery store) The only reason is to force water into the shrimp. This increases the size (until cooking) so you pay more per pound for "larger" shrimp. It also toughens the shrimp and can affect the flavor. Other ingredients selected for quality not just the lowest price.
I have been in the back of many Chinese restaurants. This one is one of the 2 best maintained that I have ever been into.
The menu has pretty standard offerings. THE QUALITY IS FAR...
Read moreThis was the WORST Chinese food I have ever eaten, hands down. The restaurant was clean, the portion size was suitable and the service was good but the food was overpriced and not very tasty. First, I assumed all meals came with fried rice...wrong...white rice. Okay, that was fine for me but my husband asked for pork fried rice instead. Thusly, his rice was replaced. We were surprised and happy until we got the bill. We were charged for his white rice and then an additional 8.95 for his replaced rice!! When I asked about the extra billing and tried to explain the misunderstanding she just smiled at me, gave no reply and walked away with our credit card. Needless to say, I was pretty upset but wasn't about to make a scene in front of my kids. Moreover, my husband's Szechuan Chicken gravy "tasted like dirty bath water." Ouch! In addition, my Almond Chicken was over-breaded and the egg rolls had NO flavor. So, we spent 41.59 for 3 meals (mind you my husband didn't eat his chicken meal or white rice). If your looking to overspend and walk away disappointed this is the...
