Relax The Back — Local services in Walnut Creek

Does your back hurt? Do you spend a lot of time thinking about how your back hurts, trying to stretch it, massage it, crack it, foam roll it? Are you uncomfortable laying in bed, sitting in chairs? Sometimes you can eat right, exercise, do everything you are supposed to, try traditional medicine, chiropractors, acupuncture, cupping, meditation, you name it and the pain just comes back. You need products in your life that are designed to reduce your back pain and are proven to work.

This is where Relax the Back comes in. It’s a whole store that realizes there are a lot of people like us who just wants products that can help us feel better when we use them. I had a “stressless” chair I bought about 20 years ago that was the best of its era, but not a perfect fit for me due to my long legs. At this point in my life, even that chair had become uncomfortable. I had reached my limit, and today was the day I decided to buy a new chair.

I went to Relax the Back at 1152 Locust Street in Walnut Creek, CA. As soon as I entered the door, I was greeted by James the Manager of the store. I told him that I had weird proportions, and I was looking to sit in some chairs to try them out. James quickly began to show me chairs. He explained the features, colors, and options available. He listened to neck and back pain issues. We swapped exercise stories. He was patient, he helped me adjust the chairs to my size. At no point did he try to sell me anything in particular. He was just looking to help me find what worked for me. James’s expertise, knowledge, personality, and demeanor are all exceptional.

I had tried 0 gravity chairs before, but I had never tried the ones at Relax the Back. I can make up my mind very quickly and am very particular. I expected a chair to be a clear standout winner, and regardless of price, that would be my chair. Not the case. There were at least four different models of chairs, each with unique features, that were outstanding. They made me realize immediately that I had waited much too long in investigating new chairs. There are new chairs out there that are infinitely adjustable and will fit people with long legs now. I had suffered years in an outdated chair without knowing any better.

My advice for anyone with back pain near the Bay Area is to go to Relax the Back in Walnut Creek, talk to James, and try out their products! Don’t do what everyone does - start by looking at the prices. Look at prices after you’ve compared chairs and narrowed the list down or the price will bias your evaluations and cloud your judgment of what will help you the most. If you spend the next few years sitting in a chair that didn’t quite fit, or one that wasn’t quite the best, the dollars you saved won’t make you feel any better. (But the more expensive chair that fit better might have.)

James let me sit in all the chairs and take as long as I wanted. I spent about two hours just sitting in chairs, each one long enough to get a real feel of what it would be like to own it. I narrowed the choices down, then had my family join me, and they sat in chairs and provided feedback. It was really tough to pick out a single chair because for the first time in my life, several fit me like a glove. For me, the “PC420 Manual Classic Perfect Chair Zero Gravity Recliner” was the one that I was looking for.

The chair fits my long legs as if it was designed specifically for me. I don’t need to recline it fully to zero gravity, 3/4’s is the perfect setting. My back stopped hurting when I was in that position. I didn’t move. I sat there and had all my conversations with James soaking in every second of pain free sitting the chair. My Wife worked with James to find the right colors for the chair, and the sale was made. I look forward to it being delivered soon and being able to relax for years without pain. We shopped and purchased our Hale Premiere Zero Gravity Recliners and an Ultimate Executive High Back office chair from James at Relax the Back in Walnut Creek. James' explanations and patience with us was very helpful in our decision. I am tall and large, it has been difficult to find a recliner that will hold up to my weight. After being disappointed in La-Z-Boy's quality for the last 4 chairs we had purchased we were looking for an alternative. (My mom left us with her zero gravity chair and after my back surgeries and broken arm, I realized the value of a Zero-G chair.) James helped us select the best match for the chairs we were looking for and I was also shopping for a very good office chair.
