I witnessed a regular be accosted. I saw a librarian, female, yelling "Get Out now" when the library announcement started and she barged into the Men's restroom and disturbed a patron who was finishing up. I watched in horror as he marched out pleading, asking why she barged in without knocking. He stated she saw his genitals.
She told him to get out and he asked to speak to a senior staff person and asked for her to ID herself. She did not. She refused. He then left.
I watched as she then went over to staff, who were busy checking patrons out and recount the story. Remarkably, it seemed no one else saw what happened.
I should add, that the gentleman in question was not White but the librarian is and I too am treated like a criminal, when all I do is read my book. This man was made to be the villain when all he wanted was an apology.
SHAMEFUL. Don't use the bathroom if a minority here...
Oh, and to add icing to the cake...I saw white patrons enter the bathroom, men/women...way past the close time...They were not rushed. Not disturbed.
Your tax dollars go to discrimination and harassment.
Update: Some of you have pinged me asking if the person was homeless, he is not. He is a regular working person. Well kept. Not that it should matter. I have seen him before, at the Library coffeeshop, sipping coffee and...
Read moreThe environment is great with lots of places to sit and read, and lots of computers for visitors to use. Checkout is easy with (just) enough checkout stations. The snack bar has Peet's coffee and good pastries and sandwiches.
Checking in books is also easy, but maybe too easy -- be sure to print and keep your check-in receipt so you can prove you did check-in your books. I got caught once with a notice of a book not having been checked in on time and a library fine. I'd kept my check-in receipts and was able to prove it had been checked in.
This isn't a complaint about the Walnut Creek Library, but the number of editions of popular e-books is way too limited in the Contra Costa Library system. A friend reserved a book in October 2014 and last week got a notice it was available to be downloaded. Several times I've reserved an e-book and ended up cancelling it because it had taken too much time and no e-book. Now I only select e-books that...
Read moreGreat place. Helpful people, clean and everything laid out nice and quiet. Used the computers upstairs (a escalator at each end) and the person helped me with something I needed on computer and showed me how to print it out. There is one assistance computer for handicapped, which is helpful. I was there for a few hours into the afternoon, upstairs there are many bright windows and a beautiful day, it is quiet up there, suddenly a man started to snore. People looked up and smiled, he was at the long window desk, head down and held an open book. Not bothering anyone. Nice place to work and great selection of books. Found out you can sign up for a small room with a computer or a bigger room for a meeting. First come, first serve on that day for 2 hours. Lots of parking. Right next...
