Today, my boyfriend and I visited this Ace Hardware location to purchase a couple of things. What should have been a quick, routine shopping trip turned into an uncomfortable and unprofessional experience.
From the moment we entered, an older male employee with long gray hair began following us throughout the store. Initially, I assumed it was coincidental, but as we moved from aisle to aisle, he consistently appeared at the end of each one, openly staring and monitoring our every move. This surveillance was blatant, unprofessional, and frankly intimidating.
When my boyfriend politely asked if there was an issue, the employee's response was both rude and confrontational: "No, do you need something?" He then openly admitted he was watching us, treating us like suspected shoplifters despite our peaceful shopping behavior.
We immediately brought this matter to the manager's attention, expecting some form of acknowledgment or corrective action. Instead, nothing was done to address this inappropriate behavior.
This is not an isolated incident at this location; we've felt unwelcome here before. The fact that paying customers are subjected to this type of suspicious surveillance is unacceptable. We will be taking our business elsewhere and strongly advise others to do the same until this store addresses its issues with inappropriate customer monitoring and staff training.
Management should take immediate action to ensure all customers are treated with basic respect...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLast night was my first time into Ace. I had about half an hour to kill before meeting someone at the Whole Foods Cafe next door, so I figured I'd meander inside and look around. I was really surprised that they have so much more than just "hardware". There's an entire animal section, and a garden section too.
I work at a law firm across the street during the day. There's a little plant in our office that has been in the same, tiny, plastic cup it came in for YEARS. It's on it's last leg. I have recently popped into a couple stores looking for a new pot and soil, but without luck (it's not really gardening season right now). So I was really excited here at Ace to find a beautiful ceramic pot ($30)! I bought a couple planters for my home, as well. Mission accomplished!
This morning when I began the replanting process, I realized we would need more soil (we had a little in the office but not enough). So back I went to Ace! A nice girl working saw me carrying both a large and a smaller bag of soil and offered to help. (I bought the big bag for home and small for the office plant). The store manager, Doug, was at the front as I was paying for my purchase and HE carried my bags of soil out to my car for me. Talk about customer service. Really nice gesture and not what I expected at a hardware store. Incredibly nice staff on both visits. Going to be back soon as several of my home plants could use re-potting, and the...

I purchased two small disposable paint brushes, priced at $0.99 and $1.79 each. When I cheked the receipt after l left the store I found out the cashier charged both brushes for $1.79. I also decided to keep the smaller brush only. So I went to the store, checked some outdoor brushes first because both cashiers were busy. Then a lady passed by and asked if I was getting what I was looking for. I told her I would like to return the two brushes and handed her a receipt and the brushes. She said "I need to check the camera to make sure if the cashier actually rang the receipt for the brushes. I was upset but told her to proceed with whatever she had to do. She then asked me what would like to have it happen. I said I would like to just return the 2 brushes and buy a smaller brush for $.99. First of all she never apologized the mistake they made and reluctantly gave me a refund. She later said leave the items I need to return with the cashier first and look around the store. I asked her why she did not trust me when I had a receipt and never used the brushe. She said it is the policy of the store.
