Had my very first Barre class here and it kicked my butt! I'm very active, I work out & lift heavy weights 3-5 times a week, so when i was told to grab a set of light dumbbells (3 or 5 lbs) I was thinking, "hmmm...this is going to be easy." Boy was I wrong! 100 reps later, my body was on fire and I knew I was getting a fantastic workout. I was so sore the next day, despite all the activities I typically do, so I know I was hitting muscles I rarely use. I've always heard that Barre focuses on lower body but this was definitely a full-body workout. The class starts with a yoga-like series of dynamic stretching to warm your body up then moves on to focus on upper body, lower body, then abs. Don't let this discourage you if you're not very active! The instructors are really great about pointing out modifications to exercises and breaks are totally ok if you get too tired! Kathryn Quijano has been my favorite instructor so far...huge smile on her face the entire time and I burned more calories in her class than the others (shout out to Honey as well, she plays the best music!). The studio is nice & clean and provides a locked space to keep your personal items while you workout. I also love being able to watch people walk by in the big windows in the front :) Great place to clear your mind and get a sense of accomplishment when you walk out the door. Can't...
Read moreAbsolutely love this barre3 location and their classes! The instructors are super friendly, fun and encouraging and have such great energy (esp Jessica Goodman)! I tried 5 classes so far, including their Cardio class. I love how barre3 classes combine cardio and strength, unlike some of the other barre/pilates studios-- (I've tried Pure Barre, The Bar Method, Lagree Pilates, solidcore, and other reformer-based boutique studios in SF, DC, and NYC)! The workouts are well-paced (vs. some of the frantically paced workouts in reformer studios where you're busy moving around the machine). I also appreciate the warmup and cooldown (also lacking at other places). The instructions are clear and the music is not too obnoxiously loud. I love this particular location because it's very well-lit and has glass windows that brighten up the space. (I usually bring my two dogs who sit outside and watch LOL) HIGHLIY...
Read moreI love barre classes and have been coming to barre3 on and off for a few years (union station and navy yard-which is now closed). Union station has two studios, 2 showers and a spacious lobby/retail space. The studios are clean, well stocked with essentials for during and after class, and bright. I also love that the studios are very spacious and offer lots of natural light. The workouts range from easy to intense depending on the instructor. I typically attend the 45 minute classes in the morning and appreciate how upbeat and encouraging the morning instructors are during class. The only shift I’ve seen that I’m not a fan of is there is less barre work and more time on the floor I think because it is a barre class there should be at the very least one set or section of class where you are on barre but would really hope for more. I’ll continue to come to barre3 and bring...
