I met Jania through my children’s participation in Kids & Culture. I was impressed then. Kids & Culture is an incredibly well-run camp founded and primarily staffed by homeschooling moms. So when COVID shut down schools in 2020 and I was trying to figure out how to handle the upcoming school year, I reached out to Jania for guidance.
Up until 2020, my children happily attended a local traditional school. Once I realized that may not be an option, I felt trapped. I’d never homeschooled, never even really considered it, and just didn’t know where to start. I talked to Jania about my concerns. Beyond just being reassuring and giving me confidence, she also provided tangible guidance on things I could do. She suggested specific curriculum and recommended things I could teach myself versus subjects where she thought an outside teacher would be better. She posted my search for a nanny/tutor to help me find suitable candidates. She even cautioned me on the need for flexibility as things can quickly change.
Because of Jania’s guidance, I was able to begin homeschooling with a confident plan for my family. I was also able to pivot from that plan without feeling like a failure. All in all, my first year of homeschooling went very well. Both kids learned a lot, including many things they may not have learned in traditional school.
For any parent/guardian who needs some personal support to figure out if and how homeschooling could work for them, I highly recommend reaching out to Jania. I’m incredibly grateful for the support she gave me and it really made a difference in a year of brand new...
Read moreI love and appreciate the knowledge, culture appreciation and research my daughter has gained being a camper of Kids and Culture Summer Camp. She begin as a kindergartner and when she aged out wanted to return as a counselor in training. The staff has always welcomed her like extended family as well as looked after her as one of there own. Having learned about the various continents dress, language, food and culture showed my daughter how big the world is and though different in a lot of ways the same as children. In today’s society it is vital that our children see other youth of there age being children while learning to respect, appreciate and grow in culture awareness. Thank you Thank you Thank you Kids and Culture for all you do and have done to educate my daughter throughout the years at each grade level especially in such a fun way she didn’t see herself learning but appreciating...
Read moreI love the Kids and Culture(KCC)! I had two children in the camp, an 5 and 11 year old. They don't call me all the time about my busy son(the 5 year old) and for the most part embraced him. This summer it was located at DC Bilingual, so many of the lunches were freshly prepared. The environment is loving and nurturing.-Yo can tell it is founded by a mother. My daughter absolutely loved water Wednesday, field trips and festival Fridays . While she is typically more on the shy side, I observed her independently prepare for her presentations on Fridays. We even had her registered at another camp at her school. After two days at the her school camp she was ready to go back to KCC. It was an amazing experience.-Though I wish they didn't end so early...
