I bought a 20-gallon fish tank this past Saturday, April 17th and set it up on Sunday the 18th (yesterday). It was a consolidation of 2 existing 10-gallon saltwater tanks we were using as quarantine tanks, so we transferred all the bio matter, filters, water and "keep the bio system going" fish to the new 20-gallon tank. Last night, 6 hours after setting it up, my wife noticed water near the base on one side. as the leak was manageable with rags to soak up the water, I left the water in it and everything running until I had time today, Monday at 3:00 after all my work meetings were done to drain the tank and take it back to the store.
When I tried to exchange it today, the manager of your store refused to deal with me and stated I had to deal with Aqueon. He would not even return the lid that was unopened that Iām not going to use because of the configuration Iām now going to use Iāll have to make a custom lid from acrylic. I had the receipt from Saturday, so it is not like I didnāt have a receipt. He was truly a jerk and treated me like he did not care if I shopped there. I even said that I do quite a bit of business with the store, but after this experience, I was going to start shopping somewhere else like Petco or Aquatics unlimited down the street... He said, āthat's fine, we don't like your kind in here anywayā... when I asked what he meant by that, he refused to answer, instead he changed the subject and said the tank looked like it had been used more than 7 days and doubted this was the tank I bought on Saturday. I tried to explain that because the salt water was evaporating around the bottom edge as the towel absorbed the water, it was leaving salt crystal residue, even over night; it does do that very quick if you ever dealt with saltwater tanks before. The sticker on the side of the tank states that the tank (being 20 gallons) has a 5 year warranty and states, "if the aquarium is found to be defective, the dealer you purchased it from is authorized to exchange the defective item for a new one.ā
The salesperson that checked us out on Saturday looked for cracks or chips in the glass, but couldn't check the Silicone seals, which is where the leak was, said that if there was any problem with the tank within 7 days, we could bring it back for exchange or refund. This is even posted on the sign in the checkout area.
Needless to say I got upset and wasn't about to leave until I received satisfaction, I even asked that he call the owners because he was being so unreasonable, he refused and said to come to the website and use this form to make a complaint... so I am. When I refused to leave the store until he at least returned the unopened lid that I bought with the tank, he called the police to force me to leave. On my way out, the manager asked me to not return to the store, which I guess is fine with me. I will be bringing this issue up with Aqueon directly that you, as a dealer, refused to honor their warranty and perhaps they take care of it.
By the way, Iām still wondering what kind of people he doesnāt like to have in his store? Iām a 52-year-old white male that is married with kids and morbidly obese due to medical issues beyond my control. I happened to be wearing sweatpants and an old t-shirt because I just got done tearing down a fish tank and didnāt want to ruin my work clothes. Does he not like fat people? People that donāt dress in the latest fashionable attire all the time? Does he not like straight, white middle-aged males? Can this, or any, business afford to discriminate against...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhy am I not surprised this place has terrible reviews? I wish there was another pet store closer to me, but I'll make the drive just to stay away from this place. There's a lot of employees that have no idea what they are doing. The first time I came with my daughter to get small animal pet food. I was followed around the store. I was carrying my wallet.. No purse or bag. Yet this employee was just following us around and watching us get the pet food. It was insulting and rude. I didn't say anything and let it go. The next time I brought the small animals we have to get their nails clipped. Way over priced! Considering the fact that they looked terrible afterwards. They were in a small carrier and didn't see the nail trim job until after we got home. So many were still pretty long and a couple very short! I don't think she knew what she was doing :( and I spent a lot of money so I expect them to do a decent job. It looked like they just didn't even try or care. Today my daughter accidently broke the animals water holder so my husband gave me his card to go get a new one. Well the card wasn't signed so they couldn't accept it. I asked if they could just ring it in as debit. I know the pin number.. if I stole someone's card I wouldn't know the pin. They don't even offer that type of payment so then she asked me what the last 4 digits of the card was. So they refused to use my card because it wasn't signed but offered to use it if I knew the last digits of the card. "Huh?!" I could have just written on it with Sharpie if I stole it and used it. This method makes absolutely no sense to me. Stuck up employees who have no idea what they are doing. I'm so done...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was in the area with my girlfriend when we decided to stop in and buy crickets for her chameleon. I have never been in the store before and I do not plan on going back. We found where the crickets were and saw they were held in a small cage. There was no lock on the lid, there was no sign saying to call for an employee, and the bags for the crickets were sitting on top of the cage. With no employees around, we guessed that you had to grab them yourself. We picked out some, bagged them and brought them to the front desk. One of the cashiers looked at the bag with an expression of confusion. We realized we had made a mistake when every employee looked at us like we were insane. It was an honest mistake. No employee even said a word to us but instead stared us down intensely from wherever they were standing in the store. An employee brought us a new bag with a label. You apparently need an ID and have to be 18 years of age to buy crickets there. No problem, just very strange. We purchased them then left, never to return again. The employees do a great job of alienating any customer who goes in there. If you're looking for a great customer experience and do not wish to be looked down upon, or talked to in a way of condescension... do not shop here for anything. Tell...
