Rotten Meat & Rotten Customer Service at H-Mart
I have been a loyal H-Mart customer since the day this location opened, spending thousands of dollars here every year. My family loves meat, so we regularly buy large family packs, and until now, I’ve never had an issue with quality.
Recently, I purchased a galbi meat family pack (packed on 8/12, sell by 8/19). I stored it immediately in my refrigerator, which is kept at 2°C (35.6°F). I also had meat from Costco and Walmart stored in the exact same refrigerator, and none of that went bad. For over six years, I’ve never once had meat spoil in this refrigerator.
However, this pack of galbi turned rotten well before the sell-by date. The smell was so strong and foul that it was impossible to even stand within two feet of it. The meat was clearly spoiled, as shown in the photos I’ve attached.
What disappointed me even more than the spoiled product was the customer service response. When I called, instead of any apology or acknowledgment of the situation, the representative repeatedly quoted the store policy: “no return or replacement after 2 hours.” There was not a single word of sympathy or effort to resolve the situation. For a store that prides itself on serving families and communities, this lack of care was shocking.
I usually have a high tolerance when it comes to meat quality issues, but this was far beyond acceptable. Not only was the product inedible, but the handling of the complaint left me feeling dismissed as a customer.
For a store where I’ve spent so much money and trust, this was truly disappointing. I hope management takes this seriously and reconsiders both product handling and customer service policies, because experiences like this will drive loyal...

I happened to be shopping and asked where a good spot would be to eat. The cashier told me to try the deli at H Mart. "H Mart?", I asked. They have one here?
I ran to my car and drove down the block and across the street. The clouds parted, cherubs peeked from behind and took out lyres and started to sing and play. This place has it all!!
Being from SF Bay Area, I am used to having access to a certain level of Korean goods. H Mart has filled the gap in my spirit. They have EVERYTHING!!!
I walked through the building and looked in every aisle. Produce, kitchen items, mugs, beauty products, grocery items, meat and seafood, snacks, restaurant in the front with more to come and then there was the DELI.
I was so overwhelmed with the offerings. K Fried chicken, various gimbap, seaweed rolls, bulgogi bowls, kimchi, fried rice, seasoned greens, sweets, EVERYTHING. I had to settle for chicken, seaweed rolls, seasoned greens and gimbap. I was going to visit a friend and now had an excuse to share. I think I now have a friend for LIFE because of the deli!!
I will probably make the drive every week because the quality of everything appears to be top-notch and the staff is so kind. Heather---you're beautiful, too!
Pricing is good and the selection is amazing. I was able to find frozen shepherd's purse for soup. I'm super happy that it was built here and looking forward to what else is being built!...
Read moreMy wife and I often visit H Marts when we travel to cities like Phoenix, Chicago and Washington DC, and I always pout and lament that we don't have one in Utah. But we do, now, so I can stop crying about it. Whoo hoo!
We hadn't heard about the impending opening of an H Mart in South Jordan, but on Sunday, my wife saw a blurb about it online, so we drove right over. It's only 17 minutes from our house! At this moment, it doesn't even appear as a location on H Mart's website, yet.
The store is HUGE, but not quite finished. Missing is a food court with restaurants and boutique shops. However, signage indicates that some are on the way. The seafood section is the biggest I've seen in Utah, but still smaller than at H Marts in other cities. I couldn't find fresh uni, though. I often buy a big bucket of marinated Korean short ribs (galbi) from an H Mart near Phoenix, whenever we visit my wife's parents. I couldn't find it in the South Jordan store. I recently searched for fresh shiso leaves (aka perilla aka sesame leaves) at a few other Asian markets, but none had them. The H Mart does!
All in all, though, the store has a good selection of foodstuffs, but is still a work in progress. I'm glad that we went, today, because we got some Grand Opening swag. I'll be back again from time to time to see how it's coming along.
Pro Tip: Check out Aisle 5, if you can't find...
