Needed to find a outfit for my son’s first school pictures and because I shop online so much I knew I would find something nice here. When I came even though I passed several employees I was never greeted then when I made it to the kids section a middle aged women with an accent came up to me and asked if I needed help. I said no asked if the section I was by was the toddlers section she instantly said yeah but we don’t have much before I could end look and sounded like she didn’t want me to shop. Then I began looking and found a lot despite because there was a lot despite what she said. I found a few outfit combinations but wanted my husbands opinion and because the reception was bad I had to call him multiple times and couldn’t reach him. The women lingered the whole time I was in the small section and kept asking if she could help. When i told her I was looking for a outfit for my sons schools picture and just wanted my husband advise but reception was bad all she said was mhm as if I was lying and walked away a little. I feel because I wasn’t the best dressed today and because the color of my skin she judged me on my appearance and assumed I couldn’t afford the clothes or I was going to steal. I worked customer service at Nordstroms and when I said I was trying to reach my husband because I wasn’t sure what to get but couldn’t reach him that should of been in her head an opportunity to help me. I was in the store for maybe 15 or 20 minutes but ultimately left because I would never spend my hard earned money at a store when I’m being treated terribly. My visit involved an attempted return of two clothing items, and the matter was handled unprofessionally and inappropriately by the store manager. Upon my visit, I presented one item with a valid receipt and a second item for which I no longer had the receipt. The manager refused to process any form of refund or store credit for either item, citing several reasons that I found unreasonable and contradictory. Specifically, she stated the following Returns could not be processed because I do not have a customer account with the store. The manager claimed that registering for the stores app was a mandatory for all returns. She asserted that the item without a receipt did not appear to have been purchased from this store, despite it being a legitimate purchase. She insisted that customer purchase history is not stored in the system and that the company's policy requires app enrollment for returns and exchanges. I found the manager's conduct during this interaction to be unprofessional and humiliating. Her tone and demeanor were dismissive, and I felt I was treated like a criminal. Furthermore, the handling of this matter was discriminatory, making me feel embarrassed and disrespected. I must also point out that your policy, as stated by the manager, contradicts standard retail practices and seems designed to obstruct legitimate returns, even with proof of purchase. I recently visited the Polo Store Tanger Outlet in West Palm Beach, Fl. I was extremely disappointed by the way I was treated. As a Black customer, I noticed a clear difference in how staff treated other ethnicities then me. No one greeted me, offered help, or even acknowledged me—not even the manager, but a black employee. The Spanish employees didn’t looked my way several times but never said a word.
I tried to give the benefit of the doubt, but after observing how other customers were treated with friendly service and assistance, it became clear this was not just an oversight. It felt dismissive and disrespectful even though majority of the employees were Spanish.
Polo is a global brand, and I expected professionalism and equal treatment for everyone. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I hope this store seriously reconsiders how it trains its staff and management to treat all customers with the same level of dignity and...
