My wife and I stopped here on a whim (between a few different options, it was the closest). But what a pleasant surprise!
We started with the esquites (aka “street corn”) — we each ordered our own, but easily could have split a single serving as an appetizer. The flavor was perfect: lime, a mild heat, the crema… plenty of room for hot sauce if you like it hotter.
We came in search of tacos, so we each got a platter: I had the pastor, my wife had the birria (for dinner… I know…). The birria tacos were incredible. Crispy on the outside but chewy and cheesy on the inside, and the birria consome was the right blend of spicy, beefy, salty and tangy.
I had the tacos al pastor. Two of the three tacos were great — tender, flavorful — but one was a bit dry, comparatively. Next time I’ll probably try the carnitas.
My wife also had a margarita — no frills, just a house on the rocks with salt. It came in a bigger fishbowl-style glass (wife said she couldn’t have more than one) and had a good sour flavor, not overly sweet neon stuff like some places do. (I had a Dos Equis lager. It was cold. No notes.)
The service was fast, polite and attentive. They took...
Read moreI would have recommended this place… until I checked my bank account and saw 2 separate charges: $42.30 (my actual bill amount) and $70.30 (no idea where that number came from). After tip, the amount charged to my card should have been $50 even. Neither amount charged to my bank account is $50. Our waiter had a difficult time getting our split bill correct, eventually the manager (I’m assuming?) came over to set it straight for us. When I went to the location today and discussed this problem with the manager, he chalked it up to a mistake my bank made. So I called my bank… and they informed me my card was used 2 different times, 17 minutes apart from each other. Their system can apparently store card information, and it seems they used my card to pay for someone else’s meal. Very frustrated about this whole process as I will probably now have to dispute this as fraud with my bank and won’t immediately have this amount refunded. Overall, the food was good but definitely take cash. This is a disappointing experience as I was highly anticipating this restaurant for weeks, but will probably not be...
Read moreOur first time here at Taco Loco. What a great find! Not a lot of atmosphere as the restaurant is rather small. Decor is simple but pleasant. The Taqueria bar is also rather small but, wow! The food is amazing. The margaritas were good but nothing exceptional. I had the piquante (hot and spicy) first and a classic for my second one. One of our diners ordered the "Twisted Margaritas (a very different combination of Margarita and Sangria) She really enjoyed it. But the food was definitely the star. We were a party of 4. Two of us had the Arroz Con Pollo which was huge and delicious. One had Chicken Quesadilla which she said was excellent and one had Steak Asada Bowl which he said was fantastic. Portions were very generous and prices were quite reasonable. The guacamole was a bit salty and quite spicy but we loved it! They served it with thin, unsalted, crunchy tortilla chips fresh and hot from the oven. So good! And the complimentary salsa was delicious. They have an extensive list of tequila choices and a good selection of beer and cocktails. We will definitely return to try more of...
