The Video Game Store — Local services in Wilkes-Barre

Had to look up their hours and realised I never left a review. I don't understand why anyone would rate this place less than 5 stars. Better used game store than anywhere else in the area. I've been coming here for years and usually find something I want. Have a bit of everything but all I buy is PS2, PS3, PS4 and PS Vita stuff but they literally sell every console and a lot of games/accessories for it for cheaper than anyone else, even buying off of some crackhead on Craigslist is still about the same price. Never had something not work, beside a console that they swapped out for me no questions asked. I mean if you are some bum going in there wanting to get $50 for your game or $300 for your stained cigarette smell console maybe that's why you'd 1 star this place. I don't know or like anyone here or anything but have been stopping in for the longest time, i've never had an issue. They will give you the same or probably more than what a chain game store like GameStop would for your stuff. They'll obviously sell it for quite a bit more than what they gave you for it. That's how a store works. Buy cheap, sell for more money. They aren't some guy that wants whatever you are selling for themselves. They buy it to sell it to someone else so they can make money because they are a business. Maybe people have gotten scammed here, maybe they got something that was broken and the employees didn't take care of it but I honestly highly doubt it. Realise that when you see 1 star reviews for literally anything or anywhere it's usually just someone that was mad about some unrealistic expectation they had. Plenty of wackjobs out there. Normal happy people don't typically 1 star anything unless it's something/somewhere EVERYONE...

A wide selection of gaming systems and games, retro and current, used and new. I would recommend at least a look if you're in the market for games or looking for a gift for someone who is.

Purchased N64 game Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, an older game that is harder to find without paying high prices used (or low prices for "new" Chinese copies). They had it moderately priced (+) in decent condition. The title art was faded and dirty, but it was used and price reflected status.

Staff informed me the game had been tested. I purchased and made my way home. My son is an anime and JRPG fan so we sat down to play and the game did not function (-).

Inspecting the game closer, the pins that hold the cartridge in the system were bent, preventing a good lock, fixed with needle nose pliers and patience. The game still did not boot.

Opening the cartridge it was clear someone had attempted MINOR repair. It had been cleaned poorly (streaks of dirt present from earlier cleaning), screws not completely seated, and bent plastic case holding PCB in metal housing. After removing all parts, cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and lint free cloth, and proper reassembly without bending parts, the game does indeed work and my son loves it.

Overall, great local store to support the community and get rare and retro games. If you're buying be sure to ask to see used merchandise work before purchasing or be prepared to put in some time to get it...

I was having issues with my PS4. I took it to this place and they stated that the issue could have been two things and I would receive a call about any new developments. After a week, I called and asked for the status of the PS4. I was told that only one of the issues had slightly been resolved and the other was still in progress. Again, “I would get a call with anything new”. After two weeks of not getting a call back, I called the store and was told that the issues could not be determined. While also on this call, I asked if there was a PS4 in stock and was told yes and that it would be put on hold for once I got to the store. I got to the store to pick up my “un-repairable” PS4 and was also picking up the PS4 they had in stock, the employee stated that I could not get the PS4 because I “missed the holding limit” on it and a gentleman had called after me to pick it. At this point I had already called and arrived in the store before the other gentleman got there and was still told I could not buy the PS4 because it was “too late”. I think the amount of effort put into the entire situation was unfair and unprofessional. Highly disappointed at the service! Would not...
