Had lunch across the street from this shop on Monday June 17. My sister belongs to a garden club in Tallahassee and I was traveling with her from New Orleans. My sister loves to browse garden shops and was enticed to see what new items she could find for gifting her garden club friends. The shop was inviting, cozy, and everything was well displayed. As you entered, the sound of gurgling water was emitting from three candles by the front entrance. This unique display was the first thing that caught my eye. A grey haired woman wearing an apron wasn’t far off so I asked her exactly how it worked. She looked at me with a blank stare and found it difficult to respond to me. You would have thought I had asked her how to make a bomb! I rephrased my question again and she looked at me as if I was an idiot for asking. I rephrased my question again and at this point realised she was just an extremely poor sales person and not very social. My 11 year old granddaughter who was observing our conversation told me as I turned away to browse more, this woman rolled her eyes at me. Unfortunately, my sister bought 5 garden angels from her. I wouldn’t spend a penny considering the attitude this woman gave me! I would have loved to purchase the candles I saw, but this woman ruined the sale!
I’ve managed several large stores and with the attitude this woman carries around, my advice to her is stay in the back room and hire a people person to sell your products. You have all the right ingredients for an awesome business, but selling is not...
Read moreI was in downtown Wilmington got the first time ever today. My friend was showing me around and said we HAD to stop in this cute little gardening store that she saw last time she was here. Everything was adorable, from the outside to the way things were arranged on the inside. However, the older lady working was extremely rude from the second we walked in. she seemed irritated that young people were in her store to begin with. after about 10 minutes of looking around, I received a text on my phone while inside the store, and when i was reading it, I was immediately SCREAMED at by the lady working that there was ABSOLUTELY NO PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED. I was absolutely humiliated being talked to like that. even though I wasn't taking a picture, I apologized and told her that I didn't know. She continued, still shouting, "there's a reason I posted signs all over the store that say no photos allowed." ...... I never saw one sign in the entire store that said any such thing, and we left immediately. don't waste your money in a store - no matter how beautiful - run by such a hateful person. if I could give this place 0 stars I would because of how I...
Read moreI have lived in the Wilmington area for the past 5 years. Whenever we have had out of town guests "A Proper Garden" was always one of my first stops. I totally love the items and the decor of this quant shop. I took a friend there on Sunday and made a purchase. When I got the item home it was not what I understood it to be. Not a problem. I brought it back today (Tuesday). Walked in, the same individual as Sunday was there. I approached the desk and found myself speechless. The woman was confrontational, unprofessional and condescending. The first and only words spoken by me were, "I was led to believe this had a timer." and I would like to return it. I have never been spoken to or pointed at ever the way she did. No one argued or put up a fuss. When she said store credit, there was no verbal exchange, she proceed to show me the print on the bottom of the sales slip. Who cared. I will say after the transaction was completed, I thanked her and proceeded to tell her just how upset I was and how rude she was. Loyal to this small...
