Cute little place in a mountain town. The best thing here was the service and that's why they got 3 stars.
They are understaffed, like everyone, but the servers all had a smaile in their faces and were nothing less than pleasant and enjoyable to be around.
The food was low end.
One of the good things were the continously made fresh corn muffins and honey butter. They were a very nice starter to enjoy while perusing the menu.
I had the pretzel bites with beer cheese for appetizer. The menu advertised that they were homemade and that's why I got them. When it came out, they were clearly "Super Pretzel" pretzel bites that were frozen and not homemade, and worse, they were over heated in the microwave. But the time I got half way thru them, they were so hard and chewy, they couldn't be even tolerated. The server mentioned that they went away from homemade a while ago, but never changed the menu. She didn't like them either. 😕 A lot of yuk for $15!!
For entree, I had the prime rib French dip style sandwich. The roll it came on was stale and the prime rib was dried out. Kinda like they sliced yesterday's left over Prime Rib entree that had been drying out on the hot line all the previous day. It said it came with grilled onions. I got about 3 total silvers on the entire sandwich. The au jus tasted like burnt salt water (if that's possible to burn water) and didn't have any beefy flavor, but unfortunately, it was the only way to soften the stale roll, so you were stuck. The best part of the sandwich was the outstanding horseradish cream. It was a sour cream base with hot and fresh grated horseradish. The kind that makes your nose burn, but in a good way. I even asked for a side of it to dip my tater tots in. Oh yeah, tater tots were good. Nothing special. Frozen food service kind, but came out hot and crisp.
I also had a draft beer. Cold and tasty local brew in a tall 24oz (?) mug. It was a good deal.
The servers kept the conversation going and my water cup full. I know times are hard, but this place was busy, so they should have better food quality.
Trip advisor ranked them 18 of 26 in Yreka. They could easily be in the top 5 if they worked thru their kitchen and food...
Read moreAs bad as it gets. Waitress had no idea what the ssoup was. (we told her). She said oh cool we have onion soup. Then she brought us clam chowder. And left...finaly, my wife went an got her and told her. Quite a while later she returned with a terrible excuse for French onion soup. Then the steak. I was already concerned as I heard the kitchen was short a steak for the table next to us. Apparently there was a mixup in the kitchen and the 1 steak in the group was used for a steak salad by the second chef so, as the waitress told them, they would have to start a new one. So what do I do? Order the prime rib. What I received was a grey cut that looked a bit like a prime rib. What is was is the end if the prime. The one that is sold at a discount to places looking to get the cheapest thing possible and still be able to call it prime rib. This is when you know they aren't having a bad day they deliberately buy sub par grisly and tough meat to try to maximize profit at the expense of the customer. This bullet proof piece of leather was cooked medium and I still to actually saw with a knife just to get through. I did some exploratory surgery on this discount slab and realized there was no hope. One the waitress finally came around to ask how things were I said sorry this isn't going to work. Best part us they charge $30 for this and went out of their way to describe the marbling of the beef right on the menu. Go to black bear or even McDonalds in yreka before you go to this insultingly bad RIP...
Read moreLow quality and poorly cooked steaks. Incompetent and verbally abusive cook. Friendly servers who unfortunately have to deal with that guy until he’s fired.
To the owner: I am open to speaking with you directly regarding this situation. You have a hostile workplace issue that needs to be resolved, for the sake of your other employees.
We sent back an incredibly tough and poorly cooked ribeye steak. We ordered rare and received medium, it had no marbling whatsoever, and it was so tough that I was unable to cut it with the provided steak knife. Both the New York and ribeye steaks looked pre-cooked, dried out, and reheated.
Even though I was OK with the issues, and declined sending the ribeye back, our server agreed that the steaks were not cooked correctly, and insisted that I send it back. The cook yelled at her so loudly when she brought him the plate that everyone in the restaurant could hear. He yelled that there’s nothing wrong with the steak, that we don’t know what we are talking about, and that she should just give us a sharper knife.
We felt so uncomfortable and worried about what we would receive on the second round, so we asked the server for to-go containers (for the other food), we paid, and we left. The server apologized for the cook’s behavior, and I told her that she doesn’t deserve to be treated that way. She agreed, and apologized again.
Needless to say, the overpriced food paired with poor-quality meat and a lazy and verbally abusive cook, we will not...
