The Palms — Local services in Yuma

As of 2017-2018, my family and I are completely dissatisfied with our two bedroom apartment at Catalina Village. It's over-priced and just too cramped for a small family of three. Read on for our detailed experience. (See photos.)

We have never had a work order come in on time (we have one from 3 months ago that got ignored, having to do with our fire detector) and when they come, the jobs are crappy. Our toilet leaked water for 3 days, flooding our bathroom before getting to it. When he fixed it, he left a mess and used up our towels. The washing machines have very low water pressure, so clothes never come out fully clean. The dryers are hit and miss, they run but sometimes have no heat blowing through.

We were given a dirty apartment with peeling cabinets (watch out for splinters! I got so many!!!), mysteriously stained countertops with cut marks, loose door hinges in every single door, our master bedroom door was so unhinged, it didn't close properly or lock at all. Both bathtubs NOT clean. They we literally painted over with house paint. It started peeling after a few showers. There is a pic of me holding chips of paint that I just picked from the tub.

We signed a form in our lease acknowledging we had brand new carpet, but that clearly wasn't the case. Walking around turned all of our feet black. This is in every room, living room, and hallway. We scrubbed and vacuumed and cleaned it thoroughly but there's some deep soot in there that can't come up. All of our white socks have black soles because of this gross carpet.

We never received an assigned parking space, where there were several EMPTY apartments that had two. We gave up on asking for one after the girl in the office told us, "They're actually painting it right now." They never did. If you live on the side that's behind Albertson's you will smell the meat and trash they throw out because we share a dumpster. The smell is wretched and strong. It radiates through. Also, from 4am to 7am you will hear the banging and beeping of their shipment trucks. You see the lights too.

Lastly, the AC vent in our master bedroom can't fully blow out because it's blocked by the wall. You'll see the photo. We took the vent part off to help the air come out more. Terrible architecture. We bought a portable AC to get us through these 115 degree summer days.

It has now been a year and half since we moved into the complex. We do like the quietness of the complex. Everyone so far has been real respectful with personal belongings. I have not had many issues with my apartment itself except for the living room it is designed a little more on a rectangle side so If you choose to rent here make sure that your furniture will accommodate the space. The only other issue is the central air the master bedroom duct work does not seem to blow as great as the guest bedroom. We were able to make it work by shutting the vents down more in the other rooms making it force the air to blow into that room. I still use a fan but that is just me I am hot all the time. We do not use the cable here so I cannot comment on how that service is. I have spectrum with just the internet w/ hulu etc. I do wish that the units have ceiling fans but they don't The lighting is led wired lighting so you will not be changing the light bulbs except for in the bathrooms. If you are looking for a 2 bdrm in a quiet area without have your landlord in your business this is the place.. The office workers and maintence personal is very cheerful and nice and do not intrude in your personal lives. Most of all the communications is done by email or text. The building I live in is free of bugs, mice and smoking. I cannot comment about anyone else's building as I stay to myself. If you are interested in a 1 or 2 bedroom apt you should think about here. There is a laundry area, grilling area although it not in the best spot to be grilling at. The pool is usually never real busy. I do not hear of any loud disturbances. A quiet place that is what...

Amazing management and great living experience!

I’ve had such a positive experience living here! The apartments are clean, spacious, and in a great location close to everything in town. The year round heated pool is a huge plus — it’s always well-maintained by Bryan, who is always with a positive attitude and maintains a great living space for the tenants. What really sets this place apart is the management. Maelene went above and beyond for me during a difficult situation with another tenant. She was understanding, professional, and even helped me and my family with some alternatives to make sure I felt comfortable and safe.
