Unbelievably Horrible Experience at Beatles Pub!
I've been a frequent visitor at Beatles Pub in Yerevan and always loved the place, but my recent experience was so shocking that I had to give it a 1-star rating.
Here's what happened. I was sitting with a guest from another country, enjoying the evening, when a stranger approached our table. He first tried to offer a treat, which I declined. Then he insisted on sitting with me, which I also refused. He became very creepy, and when my guest returned from the bathroom, this stranger started touching him and pestering him for a drink. We felt incredibly unsafe and disturbed by this behavior.
The waitresses were polite and tried to help by bringing the stranger his check and asking him to leave. However, the security guard's response was appalling. He allowed the disturbing individuals to remain in the pub because they “had paid for their drinks”. Despite my repeated complaints and warnings to call the police, the security staff did nothing to ensure our safety.
After expressing my concerns, the security guard told me that “since the men had paid for their drinks, they had to stay and finish them”. This statement alone speaks volumes about the pub's priorities. It implies that even if a customer feels threatened, the pub's policy is to prioritize sales over safety. This approach is deeply troubling.
To make matters worse, the security guard made a sexist comment, suggesting that if a girl comes to a pub, she should expect such treatment. This attitude is not only outdated but also dangerous, as it blames the victim rather than addressing the inappropriate behavior.
Despite the waitresses' best efforts to handle the situation—they were kind, apologetic, and even offered us complimentary drinks—the security guard's actions overshadowed their good intentions. He stood far from our tables, failing to provide the necessary protection. Instead of standing nearby to ensure our safety, he chose to prioritize maintaining a false sense of order in the pub.
Ultimately, we felt so unsafe that we left the pub without finishing our food or drinks. The disturbing individuals, on the other hand, were allowed to stay, reinforcing their inappropriate behavior. This experience was extraordinarily bad and could have been avoided if the pub had prioritized the security of its customers. I cannot recommend Beatles Pub anymore and urge others to reconsider visiting this place. Your safety should never be compromised for the...
Read moreOne of the worse bars in Yerevan IMO (and certainly the most overrated), and I was there for almost two years. Like many places in Yerevan, they put fake “reserved” signs on all the tables so they can reject you if they want to. Unlike most places, they would often reject myself and any men I was with before giving the same table to any woman who walks through the door straight afterwards. I used to ask female friends to go in front and take a table, then myself and any guy friends would join after. If this were a dancing/mingling place I might understand discriminating against men (it’s common in Yerevan), but Beatles doesn’t work like this: you just sit at your table with your group and drink together and leave together. The sexism is thus not only bizarre but completely unnecessary.
I also once went with a bunch of friends, and I wasn’t drinking at all that day, but everyone else was drunk. I took a ball for the table football table, which was on the bar next to the napkins. One of the bartenders (I’ll omit his name in order to be kind to him), presumably assuming I was drunk because it was 2am, started yelling at me extremely loudly and genuinely aggressively about it (I wasn’t doing anything in response). I’ve never been shouted at over nothing like that before by someone who’s supposed to be in hospitality, and it was bad enough that I still remember this 6-12 months later. Also genuinely overpriced, but the expat community started to go there through inertia and so they can get away with it. In their defence, their food is...
Read moreComing from Liverpool, I know a little bit about pubs, and especially Beatles-themed ones. Of the many that exist I have never been in one as excellently authentic as The Beatles Pub in Yerevan. This is not a quickly thrown together ale house cashing in on Beatles lore, it’s a veritable labour of love. As well as paying homage to the Fab Four, it also possesses all the qualities of a great pub: well-looked after beer, conviviality and a feeling of well-being. The manager, Tigran, credits the Beatles’ music for turning his life around and considers the pub as a joyous shrine to the music’s positivity. There are two main bars. Above there is a dining space and drinking area and below, after descending a Cavern-like staircase, a drinking area. There is a wide range of beers, including delectable draught Guinness and London Pride and a specially provided unique Jack Daniel’s rack next to Speyside and Islay single malts. The food is well-cooked pub grub and the music is well-selected Anglo-American that doesn’t drown out conversation. The congenial staff speak English and will offer you an occasional shot that it would be impolite to refuse. There is a good mix of the sexes and ages and walks of life. A place to go to, several times, if you happen to find yourself in Yerevan. Thanks to everyone for a boss experience. BTW, at the end of the night, they play ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. They might one day add the...
