Restaurant is pleasant, nice atmosphere. Food is tasty, wine is fine. The only slight put off was a waiter though. He was a nice guy and all but seemed like he was too ready for extra tips if you will. But his forgetfulness was not helpful for that goal. The thing is, he was friendly and talkative, but we were in a hurry, and we told him to bring one coffee and the bill, to speed things up. He said sure, and soon brought 2 coffees and no bill. We did not want to be overly fussy and kept the extra coffee, and thought that now that his hands are free, he will bring the bill... We waited to no avail, some 5 to 10 minutes, and we did not want to run late. So I walked about the rooms looking for him. Stumbled into the kitchen, saw him sitting there checking out his mobile. Cooks asked me what I wanted, I said I looked for that tall waiter guy, they called him, he ditched his phone, saw me, and he was like, oh yea, the bill. I sat back at the table, he brought the bill, we only had big bills, hoped he'd break it. He took it, came back with change, stretched it to us, I said "Thank you" and wanted to get up to leave, but he took my "thank you" for "keep the change", pulled back his folder with change and walked away. We were bewildered, but ok, somebody has to be nice here, we thought, whatever, let God sort things out and stuff. Not very...
Read moreThis was really tasty! Decided to go here because a few of the other places we'd picked were packed and this was on my list as a go-to. When we arrived, we almost walked out because it was empty though after inquiring, found out everyone (which was only a handful of people) was on the patio which wasn't visible from the door. We had a fairly light dinner of a really delicious arugula/tomato/mushroom salad, wild mushrooms with cheese dish and an eggplant noodle dish. We also had some really delicious wine. The service was good - they spoke English, helped select wine, were prompt. I'm giving this 4 stars because it was pricy (ended up being $67usd for our fairly small meal) and because the ambiance was so-so. Somewhat outdated. I'm guessing those two reasons are why it wasn't full when everywhere else that night was completely packed. Certainly not because the...
Read moreI had researched a little before reaching Yerevan. And most of the websites recommended Dolmama. And it totally lived up to the expectation.
I followed the map and found the place which was a little hard actually. There was a door in the middle of nowhere. But it lead to this amazing restaurant inside.
They led to our seats and the service was simply impressive. From suggesting us food, since they are traditional Armenian cuisine. To gives us drinks. It was just perfect.
We had the Dolmama, ofcourse! And it was brilliant. The flavour of grape leaves completed the meat so well. We ordered the Lamb Shank, it was soft and blended in the gravy so well. We also tried the chicken pie, and it was good too.
For desserts the waiter suggested the Pakhlava and Fig Rolls. And it was heavenly.
Must Try: Dolmama...
