had heard very good things about this place before their reopening but was very disappointed. there was a lineup outside, we were asked how many people in our party and then just told to go upstairs where we weren’t directed to our seats which was confusing.
we sat down and were given no table water (or advised it was self serve and near the counter) or greeting, simply were told to order using qr code. our drinks were dumped on the table without cups despite coming in a can and staff were very unpersonable when asking for cups. my friend and i ordered 1 minute apart and her food came out 25 minutes before mine. i had to go up to the counter where the staff member was dismissive and told me since there was a table before me that was why i hadn’t received my food. it then magically appeared not even 5 minutes after i asked so i am assuming they forgot my order. they again just dumped the food on the table and there was no acknowledgement for the lateness despite the fact i had waited over 35 minutes since placing my order and it has quietened down in the restaurant significantly
the food itself was very underwhelming and not very flavourful. i ordered the pork soup dumplings and noodles and both tasted like something i could have purchased better versions of from the freezer section at a supermarket. soup dumplings were also small, dry on the top, and broke very easily. noodles were underseasoned.
the restaurant itself also had a weird smell (almost like urine) and was quite dirty. when going to pay, we weren’t allowed to split the bill despite the staff member having to input the amount herself onto the eftpos machine. there was also a 5% card surcharge which wasn’t disclosed until we went up to pay.

Read moreThe food was actually quite good, but the overall experience was terrible.
From the moment we walked in, we kept looking at the counter, hoping someone would help us with seating. However, it quickly became clear that no such service was provided. Other customers who came in after us also seemed confused. My husband noted that if a group of people entered at once, it could easily turn chaotic since there was no one managing the waiting area or offering any guidance.
Sure enough, after a long wait, it was finally our turn. But just as we were about to take a table left by someone who had just left, another group jumped ahead of us and took it. My husband got into an argument with them. The table was right in front of the counter, but the staff didn’t step in or try to mediate at all.
I understand if they don’t open the upstairs seating on weekdays due to limited staff, but they could at least put up a sign or respond with a more polite tone. Many customers were already visibly frustrated by the lack of organization, and when they repeatedly asked if the second floor could be opened, the two female staff at the front seemed very impatient.
Their facial expressions were cold, the tables weren't cleaned properly, and the way our food was served felt careless — like they were just dropping the plates in front of us without a word. It completely ruined the mood.
I work in the service industry myself. I don't expect staff to bend over backwards for me, but I do think the most basic courtesy should be shown. Sadly, the decent xiao long bao just couldn’t make up for such...
Read moreI had hoped that the place would have improved since moving to this new location and after all the "new hype" generated by those shill-y influencers. However, I was sorely disappointed, once again by the lacklustre and mediocre food.
I ordered soya bean drinks, steamed pork soup dumplings (aka xiao long bao), panfried crab pork dumpling ( aka sheng jian bao) and soup pork wontons.
The flavours were almost there. the texture of the fillings was good but the execution is terrible. The bottom of the pan fried dumpling is supposed to be crispy but was not and instead it was doughy and thick. It was also served with a side dish of vinegar with ONE and I kid you not, ONE TINY singke piece of ginger ( as shown in the photo). The wonton soup had no flavours , no salt, no nothing. The only thing ok and middling is the xiao long bao, which nowadays you can get better quality from Aldi of all places ( no kidding as the Aldi ones have thinner skins)
All in all, not much has changed to this place. It's a restaurant for the masses chasing a filling meal but not taste. I would argue that Dumpling king at the front of chinatown is better as the prices are lower, the execute the dishes better and they offer free tea.
Honestly, how did...
