Read moreHad a quick dinner date with hubby while kids were being babysat! So glad to choose this old-time favourite. We kept it simple and ordered the Seafood Hotpot, Crispy Skin Duck and Fried Rice, ending with two serves of Fried Ice-Cream. We were delighted to find that the hotpot included prawns and scallops that were a generous size! These are sometimes small or missing at Chinese Restaurants. The dish contained a delicate sauce with just the right balance of flavours, plenty of garlic and seafood (incl fish and calamari) all cooked well! I really don’t like overcooked seafood and was so glad to find that all the ingredients; seafood, mushrooms and bok choy were perfectly cooked and deliciously seasoned! The crispy skin duck was a nice contrast. Almost melt in your mouth! It’s not quite we expected, but, was still left satisfied as the duck was well seasoned and had a good crunch without being tough at all! Fried rice was fine, but, nothing spectacular to write about. However, I must mention that Ky Chow’s fried ice-cream is the best! To begin with, they are not the tough, round kind that is common at Vietnamese and other Chinese restaurants. You get, not one, but, two, rectangular moulded ice creams, lightly crumbed. I have been going to Ky Chow for 30 years. Although, my tea-smoked duck is no longer on the menu, we still continue to come back because the service is fast, staff are efficient, the food is yummy and reasonably priced, the location is convenient and the place is comfortable with a pleasant decor. If we could afford to go more...
Read moreOne of our friend celebrated her birthday here. We ordered from yum cha as we were told it is good. From the Yum Cha menu we ordered 2 serves of Chinese broccoli, 2 serves of taro dumplings (3pcs each order) squid tentacles, long bean, noodles, fried rice, calamari, chicken cashew, jasmin tea in a pot and corn and chicken corn soup each. We are 6 in the group. We ordered light. There’s only 3 main meals in our order. The prawn crackers were very oily that we asked them to take it back, not to mention the prawn crackers which usually served as a complimentary from other restaurants, had cost us more than $10. We didn’t order drinks but we paid at least $355 including the surcharge. We have been going out to celebrate each individual birthdays for more than 10 years, we know how much we spend as a group each time we go out and so far this time this is the most expensive dinner with less food order. It would have been good if the bill was properly itemised and written in English but no! It was written in Chinese and they used an old fashion receipt. We did not understand any of it! We were overly dismayed! The food was not great. We felt like we’ve eaten junk food and paying that much was totally unbelievable. We are so disappointed and dissatisfied and vowed not to go back to this...
