The tempura certainly lived up to its reputation. What surprised me even more was that one of the two fish in the tempura platter didn’t seem to be frozen—though my knowledge of fish is limited, so I’m not sure of the exact type. (If the restaurant reads this review, I’d love to know what it was!) That was a delightful surprise. The oyster tempura was also expertly prepared—without any strong fishy taste, yet still carrying a subtle oceanic flavor. The lobster and shrimp tempura, as signature items, were undoubtedly delicious. The batter was perfectly crispy, and the dipping sauce was well-balanced in saltiness—simply impeccable. The service and atmosphere were also commendable. The interior has a cozy izakaya-style vibe, ideal for enjoying a few drinks. Although the server who attended to us initially seemed new and somewhat inexperienced, with a noticeable Japanese accent when speaking English, it actually brought back memories of dining in Japan and didn’t detract from the experience—in fact, it added a touch of authenticity and charm. The manager who handled the bill and the staff member who provided takeaway containers were both warm and polite. The reason I didn’t give a full four-star rating for the food is that the donburi was a bit too salty, which slightly disrupted the overall harmony of flavors. That said, perhaps my expectations were set too high by the excellent tempura. Even this pork cutlet rice bowl, which wasn’t my favorite, still surpassed what most Japanese restaurants in Adelaide offer. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

Place was small and clean. There was only one floor staff to attend everyone so it was a bit hard to ask for water refill every time and you feel bad. Ordered the tempura set which was quite greasy and dry. It didnt come with any miso soup at all, so if you don't like eating dry, definitely not this one. The dipping sauce was nice. The salmon aburi rice was standard, price is high. If you are planning to use the entertainment book, ask them before getting a table if they take it or not. We saw the buy 1 get 1 main course deal on our book so we went in without confirming, knowing that if they're in the book that means it's all good and running. At the checkout, we were made so embarassed that the book got rejected and they checkout staff had to shout across to the open bar confirming that they "don't do the deals anymore" in front of everyone... so we paid the full amount. (They didn't even try to accomodate us on a goodwill and blame the entertainment book). Very unprofessional. We contacted the book company and now this restaurant is in the book, offering 25% off.. how dodgy.

The tempura was okay. It was above average but nothing I will be dreaming about to have again. What really disappointed me was their service. I ordered their Asakusa Tempura (see first picture), but really looking forward to the oyster component. In the span of my waiting for my food, the restaurant ran out of oysters; which is fair and normal in operations. What was terrible though is my server didn’t tell me they ran out of oysters and served my meal thinking I wouldn’t notice. After eating a third of my plate and a bit puzzled, I confirmed with my waitress asking about if oysters were really included. She said they ran out and gave me two pieces of prawn instead when the normal order is only supposed to have one... THE NERVE. I asked for an explanation why this happened and why this wasn’t communicated. I hoped for an ounce of service recovery as well but nothing happened. Sorry but telling all my friends not to support this restaurant even with all your decorated awards and chefs. Peace!
