I am admittedly usually too lazy to write random google reviews, so if I do actually go to the effort of doing so then you know that the place that I am writing about is special. I often stay in Brisbane at the Oaks Aurora on Queens Street and Aquila is down the road and does a room charge back with Oaks which is really convenient. The food is delicious, good value, high quality, made with care and passion, and served by friendly, enthusiastic, attentive staff. From the waitresses to the chef, literally everyone was friendly and a pleasure to talk to. My favorite meals/drinks are the eggs benedict with kale chips and smoked salmon, the haloumi & lamb pita, the banana smoothie and the dirty chai. Trust me just order them. Your taste buds will thank you, but I take no responsibility if you become addicted to them. Also, it would be remiss of me not to give a special mention to one of the owners that I met many times who is a lovely lady who took the time to chat to me despite being very busy, and, which won't be forgotten, personally made me a haloumi & lamb pita even though the kitchen was already closed by the time I came for lunch. Other caffes/bars take note, this is great customer service, and it, and the food is the reason that I will always come back to Aquila. Note that in Greek/Latin Aquila means Eagle, and of course Aquila is on Eagle Street, but what is not to be missed is the Eagle themed art adorning every wall of the caffe/bar based on famous paintings and pop-culture. As far as I am concerned, going to Aquila is a must for anyone in or visiting Brisbane. Hats off to the owners for a great caffe/bar which is my regular when I am in Brisbane, and thanks to all the staff for being so attentive and friendly. Finally, for anyone who has not been to Aquila yet, what the hell are you waiting...
Read moreNot a fan of the coffee here. Somehow it always tastes burnt. Came here for lunch today and it took us 30 minutes to order, after attempting to wave multiple waiters down. Ordered the Gnocchi - wasn’t very impressed. Gnocchi itself wasn’t light or fluffy, lacked in flavour and seasoning and was in long pieces instead of the traditional round, soft pillows of heaven. The sauce was too rich for me and lacked seasoning - I found myself reaching for the salt shaker throughout my meal.
Update - A few days ago I thought I would give this place another go and ordered a Chai Latte. Surely that can’t be stuffed up. I was wrong. My Chai Latte, if you can even call it that, tasted like bland, warm milk. Just warm milk. Not a hint of chai or spice. Sorry, but I’m taking away another star from my...
Read moreI have never experienced such awful customer service, I bought lunch here from their takeaway section and found a long hair in my food. I took it back and politely asked for a refund and the lady (I think was the manager) went on to threaten me saying that she would call the police if I ever came back. I have no idea why her reaction was this as I remained calm and polite throughout but she continued to swear and scream in my face, I have never been treated in such an awful manner and was physically shaken by the whole experience. Normally I would not review as I understand people have bad days but this was inexcusable and I would not want anyone to...
