I have never written a bad review before but I feel a public duty to share my experience. I would give this bakery / café a -1 if I could. Walking in, there was no smile or hello. When my friend asked what was on top of the cookie (pink and white stuff) the girl responded "walnuts on a brownie" when my friend said no the cookie the staff member walked away. I ordered my beef pie (there were two in the display cabinet) followed by my two friends placing their order. The last order and desert came out, then a chicken pie (not mine) and the lady did not remove the dirty plates or cups. 25 mins after my friends had finished their food, my meal was no where in site- and no pie left in the cabinet. I nicely about my pie and the response was "oh I will put it now, it will take a few minutes" I questioned how she supposed to do this as there are no pie left and promptly asked for a refund which was granted with no apology. My lunch break was over and I...
Read moreWhat is it with bakeries being for early worms only? 11:20 am and sold out of baguettes. You're trading for another 2 hours. Bake more bread. Revisited at lunch time on a Monday only to be proudly told they have no bread and this is their business model to sell out well before closing time as they cannot have stock left over at the end of the day (I get wastage but I think you've gone too far to avoid this, how about the wastage of your staff wages when you aren't making sales?) I walked 1.5km to get some bread. I was rudely spoken to upon asking why there was none with closing time being 2pm. Clearly unable to be nice about this - no apology just rudely waving bye when I left as if having a customer was an inconvenience). They have no plans to actually have stock later in the day so avoid after 10am. Otherwise the bread is amazing which is why I'm so dirty they don't...
Read moreDid you know that the Banneton Bakery site in Woolloongabba used to be a warehouse loading dock? Being in an industrial looking area probably explains why I've driven along Balaclava St without ever realising there's a bakery/cafe there! It wasn't until after my visit to their Ashgrove branch that I knew the original outlet is closer to me. So when wifey wanted to head to the Koorong book store a block away I had the perfect opportunity to take a detour.
My order: almond croissant, $6 cinnamon/vanilla scroll, $5.50
While deciding I let another customer order ahead of me, and she literally got a dozen (or was it more) croissants plus a bunch of other things. Good thing we weren't after the same items!
Enjoyed both of my purchases but preferred the almond croissant over the scroll. Will aim to try some savoury items next time, hopefully once the cafe is open...
