I really like Bar Miette. I like the vibe it’s going for, the atmosphere, the drinks list and the objective behind the food. However, my most recent visit was a little disappointing. Atmosphere and service were as good as usual but the food we ate was a couple rungs below what I’ve come to expect of Andrew McConnell’s menus. We started with some oysters and scallops and peppers from the grill and they were excellent. Our salads let the experience down. We ordered a Caesar expecting a faithful reproduction of the real thing rather than the 90s Australian pub version - it turned out to be neither. Rather than a dressing of egg yolk melded with lemon juice, we got something based on mashed boiled eggs which clumped on, rather than dressed, the outer, older leaves of a cos lettuce - rather than the crisp, young inner leaves I’d expect. I’m more than happy to break with tradition - but it has to be good and this left me underwhelmed. The chicken salad with green beans and artichokes was better, but only just. The chicken was cooked perfectly but the salad was again let down by the dressing - it needed more interest which might have called simply for more salt. Don’t get me wrong, I like simple and it’s refreshing for a menu that eschews gimmickry - but the trick is, to work, it has to be flawless. It has to make you sit up and pay attention. I’ll come back because I believe there’s much to offer - but please remember a good food venue ultimately stands the test of time (or not) because...
Read moreRead the review on how a patron had to wait a while for their meal but still decided to give this place a go as we are big fans of Hectors in Melb.
Went around 1.30pm when there was only one other table seated. Most of the sandwiches were sold out by then, so there were only toasties left. Waited about 30+mins for an anchovy toast and 2 toasties on a weekday. We finished our coffee by the time the food arrived.
Coffee was a bit weak. Kimchi and Tuna toasties both lacked flavour, i went up the counter to ask for salt and then had to wait for them to bring it to me. Think the staff were far too relaxed with their service.
We also only ordered one anchovy toast but they served and charged us for two even though we made the comment we were just going to share one. It was a delicious anchovy toast, but was still not worth the wait.
Not sure if i'd come back :( Was really hoping for a good experience. The riverside view and breeze was the only highlight...

Their menu isn’t so big, mainly bar nibbles but has a lovely variety to suit everyone. I’ve tried the following, Oysters Shrimp cocktail Caesar salad but was with a twist!
Their ingredients were soo fresh & carefully picked up from local farmers which is something they’re so proud of n highlight while taking you through the menu. The service was impeccable, the lovely Magdolina was there to help me & suggested what goes best with the wine that I picked & cared to fit my dietary requirements!
This restaurant is owned by the same owner of Gimlet by Cavendash in Melbourne, so if you know it then you’ll understand why this place...
