We had a lovely experience at E’cco. The ambience was pleasant and cosy, but not jam-packed. Tables were spaced out enough that it didn’t feel like we were elbow to elbow with other patrons. It was quiet enough to have a conversation easily.

The staff were attentive and friendly and looked out needs very well the whole time. We never had to wait too long. They knew the menu and the wine list well and made good recommendations.

The wine, spirits and cocktails list were very good. Not massive but a really good collection across all categories.

We had the a la carte menu. Again, so many amazing looking dishes in a well curated and not-too-long menu. The artisanal sourdough starter was baguette style, crusty crust, moist springy crumb and perfect with the black salt butter. We shared a few plates: amazing Sydney rock oysters, both fresh and with the basil & lemon myrtle mignonette - both amazing, couldn’t pick a winner; the field mushrooms, the burrata both beautifully presented and deeply flavourful. The sirloin, cooked medium rare per chef’s preference was beautifully tender and moist and the jus was mouthwatering. It paired perfectly with the rocket, pear and pecan salad with Roquefort cheese. The dessert options looked really tempting but we were so pleasantly full we decided to have an excellent espresso and a delightful Pedro Ximenez sherry for dessert. Pol Roger by the glass went perfectly with the oysters and the Glenmorangie old fashioned was perfectly balanced and did justice to using a quality single malt in a cocktail.

5 Stars easily earns and well deserved. Highly recommend and is on my list of places to...

Where do I start. Ecco is simply brilliant! I went online and had a look at different restaurants in Brisbane that were different yet still fine dining.

I looked at four different places.... but the menu and decor at Ecco was the best. It is nicely hidden away in the new development opposite the gasworks on Skyring terrace. It’s a small set up but it makes for a perfectly intimate setting and occasion. The wait staff are extremely professional, very welcoming and friendly. The restaurant manager was also very welcoming and extremely approachable for any matter. The decor and design on very very nice, as it’s not over done nor too plain. Great soft music playing in the background creates a really enjoyable atmosphere. The food..... WOW!!!!!!

From the bread as a starter to the entrees, mains and desserts..... everything was nothing less than magnificent. The flavours are something else, the presentation is first class and really everything was superb.

They have an extraordinary range of wines to choose from. The list of spirits is endless and very adventurous... and the beers.... were premium.

The head chef is also very approachable and takes immense pride in what he and his team produce. It really is a first class set up.

All in all.... Ecco is spectacular. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Whether your having a business lunch, celebrating with family and friends or just having a special dinner with that special someone.... make a booking at Ecco in Newstead. You will love it! It is worth every dollar! ...... and it has a brilliant decor and atmosphere to compliment its first class menu.

Overall Rating: 3.75 /5 stars Fine Dining (1 Hat)

Firstly, we were a last minute booking. Mary was wonderful in securing us a table and I have to say the service was excellent!

I have eaten at Ecco a few times in the past, but haven't eaten here recently.

I think you can always expect a solid meal.

The atmosphere is nice. It's fine dining, but has a more casual atmosphere. In some scenarios that is good, but some times people will want a view or sobering a little more special for a special occasion.

Food: For Entree we had the: Seared Scallops - sauce was nice Roasted mushrooms Goat souffle - lacked a sauce or something to bring it together.

Mains: Duck Spiced pork belly Beetroot risotto Gippsland "little Joe" steak

Genealogy speaking the proteins were good. However, the dishes were very salt forward. You really had to eat all the components on each dish to get some balance. I wanted the food to be "wow", but for me it lacked a little balance. Still the food was good, but at the price point, we wanted a little more.

Sides: Cabbage salad Gorgonzola rocket salad French fries

The sides were nice. Fries were done well. Cabbage was a little heavy on the vinegar.

Dessert: Affogato - was told it was nice Passion fruit soufflé - a little too sweet. But, consistency was lovely. If eaten with the Creme fraiche gelato.. It was more balanced. Tart - can't remember what flavour - but it was delicious

Overall a pleasant meal. And...

What a let down. We booked in for the vegan 5 courses and mentioned 1 gluten free diner in the notes. They brought out regular bread & then said they didn’t know about the request. Reading the other reviews it seems this wasn’t the 1st time for that error either. When we asked for the gluten free option they just brought out plain bread without any dip or even any butter 😆 1st course was some thin pieces of mushroom with a SLICE of vegan cheese torn into pieces. Is that what constitutes as fine dining these days!? 😂 This dish was very acidic & had no balance. 2nd course was much the same, tasted like a plate of vinegar & was barely edible. The cauliflower dish was completely overpowered with a burnt flavour (see pic). The risotto was so spicy I couldn’t eat it. The server asked if I was still eating the bread despite me literally having it in my mouth & chewing it at the time. With only 4 mocktails on the menu, the 1 I that I tried to order was not available. The wait time in between courses was too long despite the restaurant being practically empty. The only saving grace was the dessert which had a nice vegan cream, a punchy sorbet & some tasty caramelised pears. Total rip off for the price; we left hungry & the food was well below average. We wont be back.

I've been eager to return to E'cco Bistro, and on a cold Brisbane night, it provided the warmth I needed. Despite the move to the Gasworks area, the bistro remains fantastic. The staff are friendly, kind, and experts at their craft, keeping my glass topped up and offering another round. One even let me sample a few wines before I chose a bottle each of the 2023 Domaine Jean Defaix Petit Chablis and Craggy Range Pinot Noir. For starters, we enjoyed delicate pan-fried potato gnocchi with mushrooms and a subtle pumpkin broth, an ideal way to warm up on a chilly Brisbane night. The green pea risotto was also a standout, we could of ate another round. The main course featured perfectly grilled North Queensland Coral Trout with sauce vierge, as well as a medium-rare 'little joe' sirloin with horseradish cream and jus with a side of slow roasted carrots. To conclude, we couldn't say no to cheese and dessert and indulged in a stunning dessert of popcorn cheesecake with salted caramel ice cream and blueberry pavlova, accompanied by a glass of Ice Riesling. E'cco Bistro consistently highlights amazing produce without overcomplicating it, solidifying its status as a Brisbane institution.
