BRUNCH became LUNCH! In fairness it was a busy sat morning. We ordered $124 worth at 10.44am. the drinks took about 12-15 minutes, that was fine. The bagel and scrambled eggs for our kids took 46 minutes to arrive. They only started cooking the crepe at 11.35am! (We had a crystal clear line if sight into the kitchen stove from where we sitting next to the kitchen counter). It arrived on our table at 11.46am, along with the barko burger. 55 minutes for all the food to arrive. When I wanted to speak to the manager, I was told by the waitress they don't have a manager. Overall the staff don't really seem to care, no one really seemed too keen to be there - perhaps there is poor morale or tension in the kitchen (who knows). The food was presentation was good, but it really lacked seasoning and flavour... The chicken mushroom crepe didn't taste bad, it was just tasteless... It wasn't seasoned at all. I suspect they only have one cook/chef and she looked pretty disinterested in her job. Perhaps the food will be better when they are not so busy. Perhaps it's the whole post covid trouble with hospitality staff (again, Who knows). We won't be back. It's all about the hip location, location, location... Food that looks good but is tasteless to average. The drinks were average as well. At least the guy (who apparently is not the manager) offered us free coffees due to the long wait. The waitress claimed she told us that the food would be delayed but that was already after 40 minutes of waiting... What's the point of informing customers there's going to be a delay or long wait after 35-40 minutes of waiting. That should be stated upfront when ordering. Adds new meaning to the phrase "ALL DAY BREAKFAST" ;) In all likelihood, no management will care about this review... They probably don't need to... (It's all about the location, what a...
Read moreAbsolutely disappointing and dangerous experience at Barko & Co
I am beyond upset and frankly, disgusted with the service we received at Barko & Co cafe today. My sister ordered a matcha latte and explicitly asked for it to be made with soy milk due to being anaphylactic to dairy products(severe dairy allergy). What she received was a matcha latte made with dairy milk, which she only realised when she had taken a sip and started to feel unwell (despite her double checking with the waitress that it was made with soy milk when she delivered it to our table)
This isn't just a simple mistake; it's a critical safety failure. Allergies, especially dairy allergies, are not a preference – they can be life-threatening. The fact that a staff member could so carelessly disregard a clear dietary request speaks volumes about the lack of proper training and attention to detail.
To make matters worse, when we brought this serious error to the attention of the staff member in charge, their response was incredibly rude and dismissive. There was no real sincere apology, no sense of urgency, and frankly, no real care whatsoever about the potentially grave consequences of their mistake. It felt like they couldn't be bothered, which is unacceptable when a customer's health is at stake.
Barko & Co, you need to seriously reassess your staff training protocols, particularly concerning allergens and customer service. Your team needs to understand the gravity of dietary restrictions and the importance of attentive, respectful service. This experience was not only upsetting but also deeply concerning from a health and safety perspective. We will not be returning, and I strongly advise others with allergies to be extremely...
Read moreThis is a really nice Cafe in a great location by the river and a nice 15min walk down river from New Farm Park. We didn't book so sadly had to sit inside. The decor is nice inside too but I'd recommend trying to score an outside table as those are the real reason you come to a riverside Cafe.
The food came at a decent speed despite being fairly busy. The staff were nice and the barista was kind. We ordered an omelette and huevos rancheros. Both were pretty good although I think the heuvos rancheros could have done with some additional flavour. It looks great but I feel like it was missing some seasoning - nothing really stood out to make it particularly flavourful - some more cheese, herbs... maybe some Tabasco sauce, I don't know. Something!
We got drinks at the end and the Chai latte was good. Can't comment on the others but again they came quickly.
I'd probably come again? But if I had to choose here or let's say Medley in Kangaroo Point, I'd do Medley (despite being more expensive). If I was in New Farm again and fancied a walk and giving something else on the menu a try - yeah why not. It's got location, ambience and friendly staff so it's defintely worth your...
