Quite disappointed with the experience. A simple request to get a bigger table for a larger group (booking for 8) met with resistance and dismissiveness from staff. We had to make multiple requests and ultimately a complaint to get a bigger booth for our group when there were plenty available.
Separate point. Only 6 people at a booth can play singles. If you are a group of 7 or more you may be able to get multiple booths and Oche will try to accommodate. Our group was not offered another booth (even though plenty available) when we asked about why two of us had to play doubles. Instead we were told that that’s how the computer does it. Based on how difficult it was to get a table with enough seats I doubt Oche would consider providing two booths without a complaint even when there is space.
Note: This review is made during covid restrictions in Brisbane where effectively you cannot and stand move around inside without a mask, subsequently not being able to drink.
Details below. Made a pre-paid booking for 8 people (Only 7 could make it) however when arriving at the venue we were shown to a table that had a booth only big enough to sit 4 – 5 people at most. The venue was not very busy. Shortly upon arrival at our booth we requested to have a larger table as it was not big enough for our group and we were told by the hostess that the other bigger booths were booked. After sitting down and getting setup it was evident that we did not have enough space and some of our group were forced to stand and had to wear masks outside the booth to be involved, considering the covid requirements. I then requested to the hostess before she left that since the booth doesn’t fit 7 people and we have paid for 8 people can we either get a larger table or a refund for the person that couldn’t make it as you have not provided us with the space to play with 8 people. She then said she will ask the manager.
The manager eventually turned up and asked “what is the complaint”. Immediately making what should have been a simple request into a bigger issue. We then explained to the manager what we had requested from the hostess about 10 minutes earlier at this stage. The manager said he would look to get us a bigger table. He came back and said he could move us. At this point, our time was ticking and some members had just started playing.
I went with the manager toward the new table to get setup and queried why we had been placed at such a small table in the first place when so many larger spaces were available. The managers response was that the computer automatically allocates spaces. I then asked why there is no human element or consideration and why it takes multiple requests to get actioned by Oche. He was then dismissive and said that all their tables were normally suitable for 12 but they had reduced this to 8 with covid restrictions. I am still not clear how 4-5 seat booth is adequate for 8 people with current covid restrictions (All the booths are not the same size). He then said Oche were doing the right thing, they were providing us a bigger table and that is the process. However this process requires multiple requests and complaints to get any form of action from Oche.
When setting us up at the new booth the manager only gave us 80 minutes initially even though we would have to move to another booth and get setup. It was not until I raised concern that we had barely started playing and we had made the request long before starting which was ignored by the hostess. He acted as if he was doing us a favour and gave us an extra 5 minutes (the 85 minutes we had paid for). Then he stated your time is ticking, he can discuss this all day with me but you only have 85 minutes. This time included the time we had to use to get the group moved from one table to another and get setup. From my understanding this is not normally the case which is why you are to turn up early...
Read moreThe Oche is an impressive establishment from the outside and as you enter ascending the stairs the brick and timber interior was even more impressive. My friend and I was greeted by a very friendly waitress, Bree, who was very happy to answer questions about this new bar and eatery and what it has to offer. This first thing you notice is the numerous dart boards that line the entrance as you walk in and continue throughout. Bree didn't shy away from the many questions I had regarding the rates for the dart games and also walked us through to an outside area that provided another gaming aspect, namely shuffleboard. Bree was interested in what I had to say regarding finding a nice place to bring friends and thanks to her friendliness, I assured her she had won me over that this would be a great place to come. The atmosphere is delightful and the food menu sounded delicious. We arrived a little late on the night with the kitchen closing, but Bree was happy to see what we could still order. We were able to order one of the many deliciously described pizzas and our order was taken after our questions were answered about the unique ingredients. The pizza was delivered quite quickly and its taste was surprisingly amazing. Our waitress Bree had made our welcome by spending time talking to us and even though there was a slight mix up on our order, her refreshing honesty overode any issue and was quick to rectify it with no fuss. we were later welcome by another lovely waitress named Beck who also apologised for the small mixup and promised a treat on the house after our meal. Beck stayed around and kept us in good conversation as we asked more questions. Both Bree and Beck would be a reason for myself to return as they made us feel so welcome and their friendliness made us feel like we were old friends. A very pleasant change. Overall the Oche is definitely a place to bring friends and socialise, enjoy the atmosphere with delicious food, tasty cocktails and ever smiling friendly staff that attended us. A must for a return visit and place to continue to coming back to. Thanks Beck and Bree, your employer would be proud of you both, as I...
Read moreAfter having an absolutely wonderful time here in 2022 for our shop Xmas party. We arrived to find firstly that the venue accepts no cash whatsoever. Not a problem to many of you but none the less a pain for us. Then after finding that to be a hassle and expressing my disappointment the service went stone cold. Smiles ran away from the staff faces, at every contact except one……..I wish I could remember her name. There were kind greetings when accepting the payment. It was extremely busy (which is a good thing) and that left our party having the dart board simply switched off mid game when the clock ticked to zero. A small interaction would’ve been easy and frankly friendly but nope just turned it off on us and up popped the next persons name for us. Following that we were directed to pay and then informed that there wasn't one single space for us to spend some time to finish our food (paid for of course) and drinks (again paid for) no standing at the bar, no stools to sit on not a single spot for us to linger and top up our bill already approaching $1000. No problem though we left didn’t make a scene as some of you are imagining and went around the corner to finish our evening and spend our money there. Really Poor form and the last time anyone in our party at least will be visiting this venue. Done your dash...
