Been to the Jubilee multiple times since its reopening, always had good experience but nothing outstanding which is great for a pub. A few months ago we went for dinner prior to a Brisbane Lions semi final game which we anticipated to watch considering the size of the GIANT screen that is always streaming a sporting event. We discovered that they would not broadcast the sound of the game, and in fact had a DJ playing at the time. In any other game I could understand, but a final game for the cities team when they promote live sport, a bit disappointing, especially when the ‘DJ’ sounded like he had plugged in top hits on Spotify - brushed it off and just decided to leave early. More recently we booked for dinner on a Saturday night, as pointed out by other reviews, there was a sign for a 15% surcharge, I asked the bar tender, she sort of shrugged it off saying it’s for the ‘’holiday period’’ - no mention of this when I booked but also not the staffs fault, decided to question a different bar tender the next round, he proceeded to say ‘’I am not really sure hey we’re still getting paid normal rates so I am not sure why’’ - we stayed and ate dinner, the meals have always been lovely and can never fault them. We left 10.30pm and other than the event on upstairs and the gaming area, the place was empty. Again, the hot hits DJ was on and he was playing to no one other than our group still sitting at the dinner table. I can completely understand the need to increase prices, supply costs, wages, insurances, everything is at an all time high, however, a consumer has a right to know what the surcharge is for, and for the staff to be aware at the very least. We would have been happy if they had simply done a price increase across items within the venue to reflect price increases, this approach has put us off, and I wouldn’t recommend this place unless it comes under new management, I hope to see it improve...
Read moreThis is a SUPER OTT noisy establishment. The big screen in the bar area was SO loud that in the restaurant you couldn’t hear the person next to you speak. There was no point even trying to hold a conversation. The restaurant staff seemed to have zero idea what they were doing and seemed disinterested. It took ages to check-in and be shown to our table despite only one group ahead of us in the line. To make it worst, the staff couldn’t even hear people say their name over the noise at check in. We were shown to a table with no instruction (i.e. is it table service? Do you go up to a counter to order food/drink? Any specials?). The QR code at the table didn’t seem to be active. After yelling/repeating our orders several times to the waitesss, I asked if I could sub my fries for sweet potato fries and was told “umm… I don’t think we don’t really do that” by the young waitress who seemed like she had no clue and didn’t really care.
Patrons at the table next to us shared our sentiment and yelled across at our group to say perhaps this was a bad reality TV program and the “comedic shit-show of a restaurant” would make excellent viewing.
The one star was because those who ordered steaks agreed they were cooked well and the aesthetic/architecture of the building is nice.
I had actually phone ahead and asked whether it was a family friendly establishment as there would be older people with us. I was told “oh yeah, the restaurant is separate to the main area and up a level”. Had I been told it was a rowdy place where you have to YELL to be heard throughout the building, I’d have happily gone elsewhere,
Overall, it was a disappointing and nothing about this experience would prompt a...
Read more250G Rump with Broccolini, Duck Fat Kipfler Potatoes & Red Wine Jus ($32) Overall: 7/10 Review: I have been wanted to go to the renovated Jubilee Hotel since it reopened but just never had the chance till recently. Went for lunch on a Wednesday and booked a table which was a good idea as we got a booth up the top to ourselves. They have a good verity on the menu but I couldn’t pass up a good old steak. I went with the rump and decided on the potatoes and broccolini for some health. Went with medium rare for the steak as I always do and it was a bit overcooked for my liking and I found it a bit chewy. Normally I am a mushroom sauce kinda gal but thought I would try something different and get the red wine jus. I liked the richness and how it wasn’t as heavy as the mushroom sauce, highlighting the texture of the steak more. The potatoes were nice but I thought they would be crispy considering they were cooking in duck fat but they were a bit more like boiled potatoes. The broccolini was nice. Overall, I thought the price for the steak wasn’t really worth it but loved the open courtyard area with lots of nature light, high ceilings and...
