Yesterday afternoon, two friends and I came to Crown to celebrate a birthday. We hoped to find somewhere pleasant to enjoy a glass of champagne. We saw La Vie Champagne Lounge and waited in the front area to be seated. We waited for several minutes, without acknowledgement from any staff. Eventually, we decided to sit at a table, in the outside section, to wait to be seen to. We’d only sat for less than a minute before a female member of staff came over, with no greeting or apology for having kept us standing and waiting, and said, “So, we’ve seated ourselves have we? Do we have a booking?” Having worked in hospitality for years when I was younger, I was stunned by her condescending manner and rudeness. I replied that we didn’t have a booking but that we were hoping to have a drink and that we’d been standing for several minutes at the front, waiting. Again, no apology, she replied “Well, we’re very busy, we’ll have to find somewhere else to sit, if we don’t have a booking, as this table is booked.” I informed her that we would be leaving and we’d find somewhere else to go. She barely acknowledged this and turned away. I know that Friday afternoons are spent preparing for and setting up the bookings for a busy evening. I also know that service does not stop during those times, and nor does politeness and hospitality. I have never complained in my life about a service experience, but felt compelled to after this. The venue can do better and this young lady has a lot to learn about the true meaning of...
Read moreTried this establishment for the first time pre-theatre and was not impressed. It was relatively early and quiet and we could see no other patrons eating. We ordered dips and a share seafood platter. It took 30 minutes for three quenelles of dips and three small pieces of bread to arrive..another 15 minutes until the platter arrived. To say that my local chippy could have done a better job was an understatement. The fried food , calamari & prawns were cold and yet so overcooked that you couldn’t actually bite through the prawns. The bug was watery and tasteless. The dressed watercress was the saving grace of the platter. We were offered a free cheeseboard which we gratefully accepted but really is this an acceptable outcome from an establishment linked to Bistro Guillaume? My verdict -stick to just drinks and eat elsewhere as it’s overpriced and...
Read moreI visited La Vie for the high cheese. Whilst I was very happy with the food, the service was disappointing. We were provided drinks on arrival shortly after we were seated (champagne) however we didn’t receive a water top up at all. We were asked about half way through whether we wanted another drink and we said yes so she gave us the menus again, however it took over 30 minutes and she still hadn’t returned to take our drink order so we left after we finished the food.
They also asked if we wanted to tip at the end, which isn’t custom here in Australia and nor did we want to after less than impressive service.
The seats were also very awkward and...
