I dont like to leave bad reviews and only do it if really warranted - and I’m afraid it is today.
In summary very poor service from owner/barista - other staff were lovely and food was okay. Price range closer to $40 per person than $20 per person.
Coffee was over processed/burnt - I politely took it back as in most cafes you would be offered a replacement instead the response was ‘what would you like me to do about it’ and sent me away.
I assume the barista was one of the owners. She was not customer focused.
After sitting with it for a while I went back to her and said ‘I would like you to replace my coffee and I didn’t appreciate you being rude’ at which point she complained about being busy and very stressed. As did her offsider (I assume perhaps a family member/co-owner) jumped in to tell me the same thing and was making hand movements like ‘go away’ or ‘stop’. I was still being polite but I was firm in saying please don’t be rude to me.
Guys if you can’t handle the heat - get out do the kitchen! LITERALLY!!
Prices are high - coffee was bad initially… to be fair replacement coffee was better but it was delivered to me by the offsider mentioned above with a message of ‘this will be the same as the other one’ and he proceeded to tell me they were busy and stressed and understaffed in an aggressive way - I felt like he was coming at me. I said this to him and was I visibly upset. He kept interrupting me if I spoke and then stormed off exasperated! 🤦♀️ Mate, I just wanted to eat a nice breakfast - not to feel attacked.
The food was okay but the experience was horrible.
I get it is busy but please respect customers - even on busy days. You’re not running a budget cafe, it’s fair to expect something in line with what is paid for.
Also the cafe still had spare tables and that time so you were not running at capacity. If you have staffing issues that is on you, not your customers!!
I did the right thing at the end and thanked the barista for replacement coffee at which point she didn’t apologise for the bad coffee or poor service but did say ‘I’m less stressed now I have backup staff’. I was left thinking ‘well good for you’
It was an opportunity for her to improve my experience by being humble, but instead, she was totally focused on herself. Not a good way to run a service based business...
Read moreThis place truly deserves six stars! From the moment we arrived at Hummingbird Café in Busselton, we were struck by its warmth, charm, and relaxed vibe. The décor is stylish yet cosy, with lots of natural light and greenery that makes it feel like a true retreat. But what really set it apart for us was how thoughtfully everything was done — from the food to the service to the location.
Their gluten-free options are absolutely outstanding. So often, gluten-free menus feel like a compromise, but not here. We enjoyed gluten-free toast that was soft and flavourful, muffins that tasted like they were baked fresh that morning, and even beautifully plated gluten-free versions of their signature big breakfast and smashed avo. Every dish was generous, vibrant, and clearly made with love. You could really taste the difference that fresh, quality ingredients make.
The coffee was just as impressive — strong, smooth, and perfectly brewed. I had an oat milk flat white that honestly ranks among the best I’ve had on this trip through WA. And their cold-pressed juices and other beverage options made for a lovely touch.
What made this visit even more enjoyable was the fact that Hummingbird is located right beside a kids’ playground. It made such a difference for us as parents — our children could play safely within view while we actually got to enjoy our coffee and food without stress. It’s such a thoughtful setup for families and really elevated the whole experience.
Service was exceptional. Even though the place was buzzing with people, the staff were attentive, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable, especially when it came to food allergies and special diets. They made sure we were well looked after, and their genuine warmth didn’t go unnoticed.
All in all, Hummingbird is more than just a café — it’s a place where everyone, whether you’re gluten-free, a coffee lover, or a parent with young kids, can feel at ease and well taken care of. We’ll definitely be coming back next time we’re in Busselton — it’s a rare gem that gets...
Read moreThe location itself is very strategic location. Was at the restaurant at 11:15 and want to order for lunch, asked to wait until 11:45am to start order for lunch. They should have requested us to order for breakfast, instead they were packed and said that the crew have to clear the place for lunch hour. So I was very understandable, so I told them I could wait until 11:45am. Waited until 11:45am and I still see visitor ordering for breakfast still. When its clearly stated that breakfast only served until 11:30am. Not a best way to standardize the order.
We asked can we order our lunch, and was told nicely that they need to stop taking order (that was at 11:45am). I have been waiting since 11:15am and they told us hold on taking order. After persistent ask, they took our order eventually at 11:50am. Which the order came at 12:30pm. They even apologise, we were understandable the busyness of the timing, but this could have done better. With clear indication of last order timing for breakfast. You don't have to force your kitchen staff to work.
The food however come, and the downer is the aglio e olio. Tasteless pasta with very spicy herbs. Something was missing with the pasta. The only meal that was 0/5 rating. The other order was the calamari, pork belly and fish and chips which was above average. Not best but still 4/5 rating.
Drinks was also okay. But some of the waitress don't really know how to pour the beer, and sometimes with the beer head and sometimes without one.
Still nevertheless I think they deserve 4/5 with the location and majority of the food is on point. The restaurant itself is quite...
