I warmly recommend!
It was a rainy evening (heavy rain, around 7:30pm) when I was looking for a pizza place to take my 2-year-old daughter. I was drawn to Angelo’s Crush by the glowing reviews and the delicious-looking photos.
When we finally arrived, a bit soaked under our small umbrella, we were the only guests in the restaurant. At first, I hesitated: a multicultural team preparing Italian food, and some “heretical” (for an Italo-Australian like me) menu items like Hawaiian and Meat Lovers pizzas. But that hesitation quickly disappeared. The staff were incredibly polite and genuinely cared about their guests. So I decided to try the Parma pizza.
It was very very good! Real value for money, even if on the pricier side of the menu. Generously loaded, yet balanced. The base was good too: thin, slightly chewy, crisp in the right places, with the right salt and leaven. It honestly reminded me of pizza from around Milano (Italy).
Then the owner came over to chat and even offered my little one a mini scoop of ice cream for being so brave and well-behaved.
That’s when I learned the most interesting story, a story of how Angelo’s Crush pizza tastes so authentic.
What they serve isn’t just food, it’s the result of a tradition that may have had its roots in Italy, thou this was not mentioned in the story, but has been passed on through generations of Australians from different backgrounds and States.
The food there is like the people: sincere, friendly, hospitable, and full of heart.
That’s why I can’t recommend Angelo’s Crush enough.
Ohh..yes, by the time we left at 8:30-9:00 pm, many more people came to dine in before...
Read moreI’ve been unimpressed by pizza in the Gold Coast until Angelo’s. By no means is this mindblowing, but I’d say it’s leaps and bounds over competing places in the city I’ve tried so far. Crust is a good balance of crispy and chewy, properly seasoned, toppings are high quality, and the price is reasonable for the portion size. Normally one can find a place that might have an okay crust and then everything else is subpar, especially for Neapolitan pizzas. Which is a bummer and might cause you to look for a NY slice or other variety, but all those options are.. not great.
But Angelo’s does a lot very well, and there are a few unique topping combinations that make it stand out. Now, some of those offerings aren’t my thing; arguably a narrower menu might be more successful, but I admittedly don’t understand Australian pizza culture so I’m just happy to find a place where they are nailing the basics and doing it...
Read moreHad some amazing pastas and pizza from this cute little place while visiting from Sydney recently. Not only did everything taste fresh and delicious, but it also had great flavour and spices — not bland like some other places on the Gold Coast. It’s probably one of the best in Australia and easily the best Italian in the Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise.
Special mention to Jeff, the chef and owner, for the amazing food — it was such a sweet gesture for him to come out of the kitchen just to say hello. It really shows how much you value your customers and care about what you do.
Last but not least, a big thanks to the lovely girl at the front, Caterina, who was super friendly, helpful, and patient. She helped us pick the perfect dishes based on our taste and food preferences, and you could tell she really knew the menu well.
Hope to try your food again next time we...
