So, I did come back the next day, details at the bottom.
Was walking past, hadn't had lunch, so thought i would try them. Am a massive fan of ramen, especially when made with a properly made stock. Ordered, was given a seat, waiting for the gyoza and ramen to be freshly made. Read some of their reviews. Laughed, sorry had to, at some of the 1 star reviews. Any review that complains about how to be seated really needs to use their eyes. Turns out this place pumps, really busy. So they have to have a system that works. Order, be sat at a seat number so your food will be delivered to you. They are often stupidly busy so they move quickly. For me, they were extremely professional, polite helpful, without being warm and fuzzy. Perfect no?
Gyozas were perfect and I do not say that lightly. Having spent 16 years in Asia and dumplings and noodles are my love, these rocked. By far the best dumplings (in a ramen shop) that I have had in Brisbane, Sunshine coast, Sydney, Perth, Bali, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai and would challenge any ramen outlet in a food court in Hong Kong. Yep, am going back tomorrow (not between 12 and 1:30). 11 out of 10 (for ramen pork gyozas)
Ramen... broth was great, homemade, obviously a bone broth, so rich and full-bodied. Miso was medium roast (am guessing) and very good. Noodles were perfectly cooked. An easy 8.5/10
Pro-tip... they give an extra helping of noodles, for free, all you have to do is not finish the broth and ask...
When things had quietened down, the team talked to the customers and very nice and friendly.
This place rocks, respect the system and enjoy seriously well prepared ramen.... Am back in Japan (Hokkaido) next month, so will do a taste test and update this review.
So day 2 or 2 second visit, gyoza were exactly the same, wife will confirm (she is fussier than I) 3 plates were demolished. Not 3 ordered, we ordered one, then wanted another, then wanted another. Dont hesitate, just do them.
Soya broth was great as well, thoriughly recommend ordering both, either in one sitting (and explode) or over 2 visits.
Don think, just ramen - and...
Read moreI have not visited hakataya ramen since before covid and have noticed a decline in many of my favourite restaurants so I was curious to see if here was the same as it used to be. I visited the pacific fair store on thursday 6/4/23 and I noticed there were two young male chefs working that day, I didn't wait long for my meal but the quality wasn't good the noodles were hard and thin and the pork was a little dry also extra noodles were cold and I had decided based on this experience that I wouldn't return as the standard had diminished but I believe in giving second chances so I thought I would try again another day.
I returned the next tuesday 11/4/23 and I had to wait a little for my meal and was told extra noodles were coming as they were being cooked and they came out hot and there was an older male chef working that day and you can tell he has been doing this for mamy years as he has perfected the art of noodles, they were thick and soft and the pork slices were tender and the broth smooth and delicious. I am glad I decided to give here another go as I was not dissapointed 😋 I only wish I had gotten his name as I would like to return when he is working and to say how delicious my meal was 👏 Staff are always...

We went as four adults with a 2-year-old toddler, hoping for a simple meal, and it turned into one of the most stressful experiences ever. First, we were told we couldn’t sit until we ordered — imagine trying to hold a wriggly toddler and being told “no seats” while figuring out the restaurant.
Even worse, we had finally sat down, and the staff asked us to leave. It felt outright insulting. Their English is very poor, so we could barely understand the confusing rules. The seating system makes zero sense: adults were shuffled to the low kiddie tables, while the toddler area we actually needed was off-limits. No high chair, no assistance, no flexibility — completely unhelpful for families.
In the end, we had to sit in the food court area, with meals served in cheap takeaway boxes. It even felt like the portions had been reduced, probably to save money. A meal that should have been relaxed and family-friendly turned into stressful, exhausting, and humiliating.
❌ Baby/toddler unfriendly ❌ Poor communication ❌ Illogical seating ❌ Not worth your money
If you’ve got kids, just...
