Positives: Modern, clean and spacious rooms, with all the amenities. We had a self contained 2 bedroom apartment and were very impressed with the size and condition of the room. The room came with everything we needed to live comfortably for a week. Both pool areas were clean and well maintained and the gym was one of the better ones I've seen in a hotel. Quiet, building has excellent sound proofing. Despite experiencing very busy periods (see below), we had no issues with noise from surrounding rooms, the ocean or even the centre of Surfers Paradise. When the sliding door was closed you could barely hear anything which was good for our young children. Excellent customer service. All the staff we engaged with during our stay were courteous, friendly, patient and accommodating. One phone call and a few minutes later our replenishments arrived, everyone was pleasant to deal with. Great location, right in the heart of Surfers Paradise. Shops, restaurants and activities all within close walking distance.
Negatives: Lack of appropriate parking. We were advised that parking within the building was dependent on availability and as such we had to park in the outdoor lot, about a 2-3 minute walk from the building. As a family with a 5 year old and 3 month old infant, this wasn't ideal (carting around a pram, baby items etc.). The outdoor lot also has no protection from the elements and the gate is open 24/7 so anyone can just walk in, so if you're hiring a car, consider this when deciding to select insurance or not. It was also very expensive at $100 for 5 days, considering it's not secure at all. The porte cochere/entrance area is too small and tight. Struggles to fit more than 2 or 3 cars comfortably, and with a lot of traffic coming and going, as well as pedestrian foot traffic, it can be a bit precarious entering and exiting the building. There was a high-end Mercedes regularly parked right in front of the main entrance door which made the situation even worse. Gets extremely busy, especially on weekends. We stayed for 6 nights, during the week it was OK, but on the weekend it got very busy, with lots of people coming and going (as to be expected). Meriton seems to be a bit of a hot spot with the younger crowd, when using the elevators on Friday and Saturday nights, they were filled with young men and women dressed up to hit Surfers bars and clubs, so it can get a little bit rowdy with people drinking and whatnot. One young lady even commented aloud in the elevator "this is the party hotel", something to be mindful of if staying here with a young family over the weekend. Long wait times for elevators during the busy periods. We experienced multiple wait times of 5-10 minutes during our stay, despite the fact there are 6 or so state-of-the-art elevators in operation (separate to the residential ones). Often the elevator would arrive already packed full of people, luggage etc. As mentioned, we were staying with our young kids, who got a bit restless waiting around for long periods. In room entertainment options are lackluster. There's no default Foxtel, instead there's a Google Chromecast system which does enable you to stream Foxtel (only if you have it), YouTube, Stan, Netflix etc. from your phone, however this is annoying to have to constantly set up with your phone every time you want to watch something and it is a confusing system for people who...
Read moreDisappointing Experience for Our Wedding Stay
My partner and I are currently staying in a high level oven view 1 bedroom apartment here for our wedding, we booked months in advance with high hopes of a 5 star experience. Unfortunately, our experience has been disappointing, and we feel compelled to share our concerns.
Pre-Arrival and Check-In: We booked for 1 night before and two nights after our wedding. In my booking I requested one night in an ocean view high level, and wanted someone to call me and help book a far better room/penthouse for wedding night and subsequent night, I also specifically requested parking underneath as the bride was getting ready in the apartment, and we didn’t want her walking through the foyer in her dress. We also requested special additions like champagne, florals, and rose petals for our wedding night. There was zero communication or acknowledgment regarding these requests. We did get a handwritten card and balloon welcoming us with a champagne which was nice but nothing like I requested.
Service and Communication: The night before the wedding, I searched nearby for flowers but couldn’t find any. I turned to hotel reception thinking and Expecting a 5-star hotel to help, I was simply told to google it and give them my room number, when the florals arrive reception can call and I can come down and pick them up, No recommendations or time frames were provided.
Noise and Room Quality: The south side of the building was noisy with jackhammers all day and abseilers on the building next door, making privacy and fresh air difficult. The apartment, while clean enough, wasn’t 5 stars, it had grubby grout in the bathroom, dust in the aircon vents, and the air conditioning dripped.
Parking: Parking was a major issue. The open-air car park one-two blocks away felt insecure with homeless people and no visible security at night, We were lucky to get a spot for our wedding day after repeatedly asking, it seems the default answer is always no there is no parking available, once she scanned my room key the second night we were lucky enough to get a carpark underneath after asking multiple times the first 12 hours, The underground car park was tiny - it’s understandable why people complain about parking.
Upgrades and Room Service: When checking in, I asked about upgrades to make our stay unforgettable. I was bluntly told at check in counter that they don’t do upgrades and quickly redirected the conversation to how I’d like to pay. Rooms don’t get serviced for three-night stays; you can call and request for additional fee, after 7 nights they do a proper full clean. we ran out of shampoo and conditioner on second night, we requested more the next day at 11 am, and still haven’t receive it by 2:45pm as I write this review.
Overall, our experience has been very disappointing. A time in our lives we only do once, I wanted to make this unforgettable and a real treat. We have one night left and are considering checking out early and either going home or to another hotel nearby that we know is better. There are far better options for less money within...
Read moreWe booked the Ocean Sky Suite for a two day getaway. Check In Time was 3pm.On arrival we presented to reception and were told we would need to pay $25 per night for a on-site parking spot,or park in off street parking. Even though we had just paid over $700 per night for our Suite, your not even privileged a car space. Then the Gentleman informed us that our room was not ready and we are now at 3.30. We were given a card to enter the car park, and were told he would call when our room was ready, remember this was 3pm check in to which they get you anyway for a day. We were informed our Suite wasn't ready due the the state it was left in by the previous guests.Really how long does it take to clean a Suite. After going back up to reception not very happy by this time and with a very sick hubby we were finally given our room key. On entering our Suite it was Wow right over the ocean on the 73rd floor and appeared stunning. On a closer look the aircon vents in all rooms were thick with dust, mold was thick in the corner of the kick plate in kitchen.several places throughout the Suite had long black hair strands on the floor, under the kitchen breakfast bar was just filthy spillage of something like cordial that had been there for quite some time on a closer look. The second bedroom on the carpet had at the side of bed what looked like dried vomit . How does a cleaner miss this & a Head cleaner approve the room fit for guests. I'll tell you how they don't do their job properly thats how. On calling reception and making a complaint I was told how sorry they were and seeing all of this had happened they would send cleaners and matience up to fix the problems,to which I declined as it was something that should have been done without interference to guests after checking in. And having only 2 nights definitely impinged on our privacy. I was then told that the issues we faced should never have happened, and the staff member advised a refund after speaking with head management. Well what a joke. There excuse was due to not having booked direct with them at the Hotel and a third party was who we booked and paid through, on their website though a refund was not possible, I reminded the staff member that it was not a third party cleaning the Hotel though ,but perhaps thats what they need to do. I was offered a refund for the cost of the Car Space of $50, but I would be required to sign a form wavering my right to this Review. So that refund was clearly declined by myself. It's a disgrace that these Hotel Chains are allowed to fob people off with the price they charge for accommodation to simply not receive what you pay for. I also took photos of all the issues within our Suite and sent them to management as requested.I would have put them up here as well ,but no place to add .Meriton Surfers Paradise look after the customers who keep you in employment. Never Again. I have reached out to Amanda at the fb website as advised by Amanda and still waiting for that reply .I decided to add the photos of what we dealt with ,so others...
