Original- 3 stars I had my wedding at this hotel. As a venue I was generally impressed. The majority of the staff were wonderful, the facilities were also great.
My issues are mainly with the wedding coordinator and how unorganised things seemed to be. When I first signed my contract for the wedding it was just over 1 year before the wedding date. I was initially given a quote to which I agreed on and had several verbal agreements with the coordinator. A few months after we signed our contract there was a coordinator change over. At first I was happy with the change as obviously staff can come and go and I was promised that a comprehensive hand over would occur. But what followed only seemed to be a bait and switch. What I mean by this is; we were promised free parking to us and all of our guests as we had to spend $500 on each cabin (more then what is advertised for a standard night) this is on top of the standard venue hire and head fees for guests. But only a few weeks away from the wedding we were then told everyone must pay $30 a day for parking. We were initially shown a certain menu to choose from and then when closer was sent a different and less appealing menu (luckily I did advocate for myself and pushed for the original menu otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten it). On top of this we had arranged a drinks package that would include standard beer and wine. As I’m not a drinker I did have a verbal agreement with the original coordinator that was also agreed to by the new one that I could have 2 chosen cocktails during the drinks package instead of wine and beer. This was then taken back as we got closer. So I asked to remove the Shiraz and swap it for a moscato. I was told that this would be ok and then a week before the wedding it was suddenly not ok. I was told that I could have a cash bar to offer my guests spirits as no extra charge and then not long before the wedding they charged me an additional $300 to offer a cash bar. I was also told that because we were hiring an extra room for my daughter to be looked after in that they would put a cot in there free of charge to which they then tried to charge me for later. We were also offered a reserved spot in the stingray bar for after the reception but only a few days before the wedding I was told that policies had apparently changed and now it was almost another $1000 that we had to pay upfront to have. The issue I have here isn’t that I was being charged for extra services. My issue is that I was falsely lead and deceived just to have a contract signed. But to really top this off if it wasn’t for my celebrant on the day my ceremony wouldn’t have been set up and ready on time. When my celebrant arrived 1 hour before the ceremony barely anything was set up. Chairs were not fully arranged, the speaker system was not set up, there was no signing table ready. If she hadn’t been experienced then the day could have gone horribly wrong. All the while the wedding coordinator was sitting in the spa area on her phone/ iPad tending to something else… not coordinating anything. She was rude and abrupt when she came to get me and not only that but as soon as I walked down the aisle she was gone. She was difficult to communicate with in the morning and rather then start her day to visit I me in my hotel room she was showing potential new brides the venue. I think more focus should be on the clients you already have especially on their actual wedding day. Seems like VERY poor management. I’m so disappointed with how I was made to feel during...
Read moreI wanted to like this hotel but overall it was a very average stay. I arrived just before 3pm check in time, but was told my room wasn’t ready and they would call when it was available. They called about 3.30. When I booked I requested a quiet room away from the lifts. My room was right next to the lift! The ocean view was nice, but it wasn’t peaceful or relaxing as the rooms aren’t sound proofed, you can hear the Gold Coast light rail rattling past, the air con above the restaurant was extremely loud, the noise from the pool was loud/echos and the pool music was pumping most of the day and evening. As much as I wanted to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view + sea breeze, the air con and music was off putting. The room wasn’t super clean which I am guessing as poor housekeeping were asked to rush my room when I arrived. I reported a maintenance issue and it took several hours and the 3rd report for someone to come fix it. A panel on the balcony glass was loose and making an annoying noise which was driving me crazy. I pressed the button on the phone which said help me and no one answered, I had to go downstairs to reception to get help. I wasted hours in my room waiting for someone to fix it as I was told the first two times someone would be there shortly. It’s obviously a common problem as the bloke who fixed it knew exactly what to do. The pool area was very crowded and I only went down once as the rest of the time they were packed in like sardines in the pool and spa. People were squabbling over the lounges. The buffet breakfast had good variety, the mango juice was delicious, however the pancakes were cold, the waffles and donuts stale. The staff when replenishing the hash browns just tipped the new ones on top, which meant if you got one at the bottom it was stone cold and hard. The toaster asked people not to turn the dial (no issue with that) but one day it was on 8 and toasted nicely. The next day it was on 3, when I put the bread back in to toast a second time I was asked by a staff member what I was doing. Included in a package, breakfast was good. I would not pay $49 for it however. Also the first time I have had to pay for barista coffee. I’ve stayed in half a dozen 4 and 5 star hotels in the last year and coffee is always included with breakfast. At least the first coffee should be free. I had room service a couple of times. Both times when I wanted to order the phone wasn’t answered and it would divert to a mailbox which said you couldn’t leave a message. It took a few calls both times to get through to someone and the line was very scratchy. The prawn linguini was tasteless and pasta was overcooked. The nachos, salt and pepper squid and prawn rolls were delicious. I did love the tray room service was delivered in to keep the food hot and clean. Wish more hotels would adapt it. I agree with a lot of other reviews, the water pressure isn’t strong and depending on the time of day there wasn’t much hot water. There was also a lack of toiletries which are normally standard in a 5 star hotel. The body wash in the shower was only 1/4 full when I checked in and running out by time I checked out. The bath was lovely in terms of being able to see the ocean from it or watch tv, but it took ages to fill due to water pressure. I wanted a relaxing stay but found it hard to relax with all the outside noise.|Overall, not sure if I would stay here again. If the rooms were soundproofed, given the location and views, maybe. With rooms as current, the music from the pool impacting having balconies with such pretty views and tiny pool area, along with other issues, I’m not sure I would and I certainly don’t think this hotel is a...
Read moreLiterally have had the most beautiful weekend at the QT! Don’t worry about the pool being closed as the pool next door is lovely, plus you’re 2 minutes walk from the beach!
We had a 2 night stay we did 1 night in a cabin 1 night in an ocean view room,
The cabins are absolutely amazing they have thought of every detail for a stay to remember, the walk in, you pass the most magical little seating area with a fireplace in the middle to go to your very private cabin, it’s surrounded by greenery and the sounds of birds, with a little swinging egg chair and some extra table & chairs to relax on, the bed is so cosy and the window beside bed you can enjoy the most beautiful sunset, they supply T2 tea bags, and raw treats which include snicker flavour triangles bites, jammie dodger biscuits and salted I think sweet potato chips, which can be refilled on request which is included in your stay! We had a cheese board each night with drinks, so good and all the little touches are well thought out, at night we came home to some fresh herbal tea and a little chocolate such a sweet gesture! I’ll try post pics
The hotel staff couldn’t do enough for you they are all very friendly and welcoming they had given us some jigsaw chocolate complimentary and I rang to request to buy some to bring home to our kids which they gave us complimentary too!
Our ocean view room had the most beautiful view with a little day bed to enjoy the sunrise in the morning and beautiful pinks sky at night the rooms are very fresh and cosy all the bedding in each room was so comfortable and the bonus of having a Dyson hair dryer in the rooms plus good quality shampoo/conditioner/body wash.
The balcony in our room was closed because of maintenance they are doing to the pool/hotel but didn’t make a difference to our stay as we could still enjoy the view from the comfort of our room I’m not sure this applies to all rooms as I did see some people out on their balcony when on a lower level.
We used the gym while we where there, there is enough equipment to get a good work out in plus they provide towels and filtered water
We booked in the yamagen japanese for the sushi making experience, it went for an hour and we got to make 4 large sushi rolls cut into four pieces it was actually so good! We got to eat the sushi and my husband had the whisky too he said it was great, The staff at the QT made this weekend so relaxing, they cannot do enough for you, this hotel has everything you need, we went to stingray to watch the lions game they have big screens and a good atmosphere,
We didn’t get to try the spa but will be back again soon and will defs give it a go!
The hotel is 5 minutes walk to surfers where you have lots of restaurants to choose from and plenty for the kids to do, location is very central but far enough away to be nice a quiet at night, the tram is a 3 minute walk.
All in all had a great stay and will 100% be back with the kids...
