A Thai restaurant that can’t cook rice. Will not go back! Went with my Thai wife for dinner with high expectations out of a recommendation. We usually go to other small local Thai restaurants in our area that are always great, affordable, and really authentic. We consider ourselves self proclaimed experts in Thai food and my wife is a very good Thai cook herself. While the decor, staff and restaurant itself looks amazing, don’t be fooled. Our favorite dish is papaya salad (Som Tum) with sticky rice, but we were immediately disappointed to find out they didn’t even have sticky rice on the menu. That’s like going to a fish and chip shop that doesn’t serve chips. So we ordered Som Tum with steamed rice and our next favorite, spicy red curry and fish cakes. The Som Tum was one of the worst we,ve ever had, ever. Like raw lemon juice. Think they forgot the sugar. The red curry was average at best, and not even close to spicy which we specifically asked for in Thai to a Thai waitress, and almost just a bowl of coconut milk. The fish cakes were bland and flavorless, and the dipping sauce far from authentic. It was almost just raw vinegar in a dish. But worst of all the rice was gross! A completely waterlogged mushy sludge that your average Thai person would chuck in the bin. Then when paying at the counter the staff asked how the meal was, and we told them the truth, only to be told sorry, and charged almost double what we would normally pay at our local smaller places. I don’t know if we got them on a bad day but we couldn’t have been more disappointed. The only thing authentic about this place was the traditional dress the staff were wearing. The many 5 star reviews on this page must be from people who know little about real Thai food, and we’re fooled by the excessive Thai decor and over-presented look of the dishes. The food itself...
Read moreI sincerely suggest either changing the chef or giving them some serious feedback. This used to be one of my favorite places, a restaurant I recommended to many, and a spot I visited every time I came to the Gold Coast. However, after a long time, I revisited and had the worst meal ever. None of the dishes were seasoned properly, and I regretted paying over $100. The only thing I enjoyed was the beer.
The fried rice was bland, clumpy, and not warm enough, as if it hadn’t been stir-fried properly. The onions were cut way too thick, ruining the texture. The Pad Kee Mao was the worst I’ve ever had—unbearably spicy and lacked any balance of flavors. I could barely take a bite and had to mix it with the bland fried rice just to make it edible, but even then, it was still unpleasant and left my stomach feeling upset.
The Som Tum was completely off, as if the chef had forgotten the fish sauce—it didn’t taste anything like Som Tum. I tried to force myself to eat since I didn’t want to waste the money I spent, but it was impossible.
I highly recommend checking the food served by the chef who worked on 25th November 2024. The restaurant wasn’t even busy that day. I visited for a special occasion but ended up with an awful meal and stomach trouble because the food was excessively spicy. I have no desire to return and am extremely...
Read moreAs a connoisseur of Thai cuisine, I recently visited this restaurant, drawn by its reputation for serving authentic Thai dishes. The experience was a blend of delightful surprises and unexpected disappointments.
The food, undoubtedly, is the highlight. Each dish is a testament to the rich flavors and spices characteristic of Thai cuisine. The Pad Thai is perfectly balanced, with a harmonious blend of sweet, sour, and savory notes, while the Tom Yum soup bursts with a spicy tang that tantalizes the taste buds. The ingredients are fresh, and each dish is artfully presented, showcasing the care and skill of the chefs.
However, there were aspects that marred the overall experience. The most notable was the surprising additional charges for basic amenities. Being charged for tap water and hot service felt unreasonable and left a sour taste. This practice, uncommon in most dining establishments, seemed at odds with the otherwise excellent service and quality offered.
In conclusion, this place delivers an authentic Thai dining experience with its delectable food and enchanting ambiance. However, the unexpected charges for basic services are a letdown and something potential patrons should be aware of. Despite this, the restaurant remains a worthy destination for those seeking the true flavors...
