A Night at the Hip Hop Haven: Milky Lane on Cavill Ave, Surfers Paradise
Tucked away in bustling streets of Surfers Paradise, the Milky Lane burger restaurant on Cavill Avenue presents an unforgettable spectacle. It’s not just another burger joint—it's an experience that aims to enmesh the art of food with the spirit of street culture, the walls adorned with expressive murals of revered rappers that infuse the space with an irrepressible energy.
This hive of vibrant personas embraces a bohemian charisma that dares to be different. It attracts a coterie of quirky and dynamic patrons who only add to the ambiance, making it a prime destination for those seeking more than just a meal.
Upon arrival, I found myself caught in the throes of a bustling Friday night, my lack of reservation serving as a lesson to future visitors. Although seated outside due to the dinner rush, the vibe of the street comfortably dovetailed with the restaurant's theme.
Venturing into the menu for the first time, I opted for the tried-and-true Milky Lane classic cheeseburger, a double-smashed delight. Simplicity often serves as a litmus test for a place’s commitment to culinary finesse. However, here I encountered a glaring culinary misstep that couldn't be ignored: the presence of tomato sauce. This condiment, in my book, is a definite no-go for a smashburger. A cardinal rule overlooked.
In terms of its composition, the burger’s freshness was commendable but let down by the seemingly gratuitous construction. An apparent attempt at aesthetic enhancement, the towering structure felt more like a gimmick than an essential enhancement, diluting the authenticity of the experience.
Culinary assessment? A rather underwhelming 4/10. Its aesthetic appeal was not enough to justify the cost nor the sensation of each bite, where even a fast-food equivalent like a McDonald's hamburger would have filled the void equally.
So, where does this leave Milky Lane on Cavill Avenue? Well, despite my lukewarm burger experience, the pulsating ambiance left a significant impression. The place thrives on its street art ethos, a swaggering personality, and a lively crowd.
The verdict is that I may return for a second round, not lured by the prospect of a standout burger but to immerse in the electrifying atmosphere. So, while the burger game might not be their strongest suit, Milky Lane unquestionably reigns supreme in terms of ambiance, a testament to its unique blend of dining and...
Read moreI came here with my sister to try out milky lane on the GC, we are from Sydney and have been to Milky Lane before so we know the quality of food should be good. The taste of the burgers were actually decent and the wings were pretty good. However we did see 2 full grown German cockroaches. One was crawling near the wall near where we were sitting very close to the table I was at and so close to the food! I killed it with a serviette. Then not 10 minutes after, I see a German cockroach crawling behind my sister next to the wall. It then travelled towards a group of girls who were sitting close to us. I tell the waitress that there’s a cockroach, she sees it and tells us we can move away from it. She then uses a MENU to flick the cockroach in the direction of where my sister and I were. I just found it hilarious how she dealt with that situation. The manager/ owner came out. And apologised for cockroaches, said it’s the “buildings problem” and it’s not just them. He then asked me how I knew it was a German cockroach, because I know what that is. It’s kind of common sense. Especially if you’re a Resturant Owner you should know what pests to look out for. Also I have a Science background in education and entomology and once you see a German cockroach, and 2 for that matter. It’s a pretty bang on sign for an infestation as they breed like crazy!
Him saying it was the “buildings problem” is just a hard excuse and not taking responsibility of the clear pests problem they have. He said he would compensate us for our meal with a discount. I looked at the screen that he was finalising our bill on and he took about 4 minutes to decide what type of discount to give us. He settled on giving us a discount of $5.83. Now this is laughable. Honestly this place left a bad taste in our mouth, both the manager and the wait staff and how he dealt with the “discount” and how the waitress flicked the cockroach using the menu. 😂
I feel if they dealt with that situation better I would have not written this poor review on them. We spent $48 that night with the lovely...
Read moreSadly I will not be returning to this burger place. I attempted to love this place. I’ve been there at least five times and it’s just not up to scratch.
The first two times they got my order wrong. I did my best to be clear when ordering. The third time I ate there I was super clear with what I wanted but the server was quite rude when my burger came out.
The fourth time was actually okay.
The fifth time my order came out correctly and it looked great. I got the Kevin bacon with two extra grilled free range organic chicken breast coated in Portuguese chilli marinade. I replaced the American cheese with Swiss cheese and added grilled pineapple. I had it with a gluten free bun so the total was about $42. I was hungry and I don’t mind paying for what I want.
When the burger came out it seemed okay but when I was eating it I opened it up to see the tiny piece of grilled pineapple which honestly annoyed me.
I spoke to the main person seating people and person you pay. I showed them the photos I posted in this review and said it wasn’t good enough for $3. He got defensive and made out that I ordered a big burger so I should have got enough to eat. I attempted to address the issue of the lack of value but he just wanted to talk about how big my burger was. I didn’t feel the need to argue but thought the issue could have been dealt with better.
You might have a different experience but I won’t be taking my friends...
