Billy, Billy, Billy... Having been a huge fan of this American-style burger restaurant for years now, our latest experience was anything but what we expected. What was arguably the best loaded fries ive ever eaten (with a cheesy sauce, pulled pork, pickles, and more) has descended into a choice of 3 options with the pulled pork one priced at $20, so I ran with the cheesy sauce with bacon at a little over $13. After spending $22.50 on a mixed platter - which my wife described as disgusting and couldnt finish - and $35 on a Big Billy burger for a total bill of more than $60, I just couldn't justify the pork option. The cheesy sauce was like a canned mac cheese sauce I had in Karft Mac n Cheese packs as a kid, that made me feel sick by the end of the meal so I couldn't finish it. I tried the jalepino poppers, onion rings and mac and cheese bites from my wife's platter, which seemed to be from frozen food packs, and my wife said the buffalo chicken was dry and not enjoyable. To be fair, the burger tasted okay - but nothing better than a Maccas Big Arch Burger that was a third of the price. I felt ill after the meal from the sugars, carbs and greasiness and didnt eat again at dinner. My wife and I will never return. Wouldn't eat at Billy's again if it was free. Overpriced, poor quality and tasteless platter, a shocking step back in the quality of loaded fries that used to be epic, a tasty burger, but generally a dreadful dining experience. Don't waste your money here. This just isn't the...
Read moreI booked online for a group of 17 and a highchair, and arrived to find a table with plenty of space! (Admittedly not a lot of room to put our baby’s pram aside, but it’s a tight space indoors, and I expected that.)
We ordered at the counter, and were given buzzers to collect cocktails and meals. Other drinks were prepared quickly and handed to us at the counter.
There is a surcharge for using card, but it’s in line with the charge that is paid by the store to the merchant. They accept American Express.
Despite the restaurant being very close to full, most of our group had their meals within 30 minutes of being seated.
The chips were hot and crunchy – the seasoning is incredible. The burgers fresh and delicious. I also had the jalapeño poppers, which were great – not too spicy! On Saturdays they had a $10 cocktail deal, so many cocktails were purchased and loved by our group.
I loved the addition of scoop ice cream since my last visit, and the serving size was generous. Billy himself chatted to my kid while we ordered our ice cream scoops, and she actually talked with him while we were there - a rarity! She’s a wise young soul who’s purposeful with who she interacts with, even within our family.
Parking nearby can be difficult due to the popularity of Hobart’s waterfront, but it’s worth the walk. I hope it won’t be as long between visits next time. We will...
Read moreI love my hamburgers and have a top 10 around the world, and this place comes in 3rd. I was blown away and so glad I found this place while visiting Tassie.
The service is outstanding and very friendly to the point you get a parting good bye.
I decided to try something differnt and ordered the Shroom Loaded Fries and all I can say is WOW. All the flavours worked well from the perfectly cooked chips, to the Mushrooms done in an amazing sauce and the coleslaw. My mouth is watering thinking about it haha.
I had ordered the buffalo burger with a meat pattie as an extra, this was full of flavour, perfectly cooked buffalo chicken and fresh ingredients used. The meat pattie was so juicy and the burger bun was delish. The bacon was cooked to perfection (crispy just the way I like to).
My travel buddy ordered the Big Billy and was blown away,
I even had a sneaky bite and loved it. Perfectly cooked juicy patties, crispy bacon.
I could not fault one thing, the whole experience was great and when I come back to town (am from VIC) I would go back no doubt.
If you love ya burgers, be sure to check...
