A very pleasant surprise was the response of my hub and son! At first when I told them I booked our lunch here, they were not too excited. But, the service, atmosphere, the food and overall experience were enough for them to admit I was right to have our son 's bday lunch here. Our son did say it was great to be able to control portions of his fave goodies like the pasta, veggies and desserts galore! My hub truly agreed the food was unexpectedly fresh and tasty, especially the butter chicken which he normally doesn't eat ( he prefers vindaloo or rogan josh). Special mention to the staff especially Isabelle who was very accommodating and friendly. I even asked her to please take our souvenir photo and she happily agreed and when I said its our son's bday she went away and came back with a big slice of choc cake with a bday greeting. Since we were quite full, she let me take a photo first then she packed the slice in a box. Upon paying, she asked our son if his name is... and he said yes..so I asked what's yours? Turned out, they have met before, she was our son's best flat mate's younger sister in high school. No wonder, I kept telling the guys, the waitress seems very nice and attentive! Not just to us! Even before discovering they know each other, we were talking about coming back here for other special occasions ( I am on a less meat and more veggies diet though.) This place is indeed a gem, come early especially during week days, less people, more quiet! Thank you Marquis, you made our son's day special! Thanks Atef(on my next visit, he gave me a discount). Oh, there are great water views too from some tables, request one if you can upon making reservations. I'll be...
Read moreOne of the worst experiences ever going out for dinner - robbed and then abused by the owner as he didnt like the feedback he asked for. We were booked in tonight for 11 adults and 2 children for one of the kids birthdays - so a $500 food + drinks group - one any decent venue would want to have continually return or so one would think To start, went to get the kids a jug of raspberry, the bar staff reach to their fridge and pull out a 75c bottle of coles brand Lemonade put a dash of raspberry syrup in it and then charge $15.50 - when questioned why they were using coles brand rubbish cordial and making me pay premium prices they just said thats all they had. half way through the meal the owner comes up and tells the kids they cant have any more food as they were piling up eaten jelly cups and he decides they have had enough - talk about bodgey considering its a premium price with an all you can eat buffet and the kids were eating 2 spoonful jelly cups. anyhow as we were leaving the bar staff told him I wasnt happy about the coles brand cordial. He starts whining saying that coca-cola products are too expensive and he needs more margins. I told him his margins werent my issue, but when im paying $15 a litre for soft drink, coles brand 75c a bottle (at retail) is unacceptable. he started on about saying they will do better next time we come to which i replied that based on his and his businesses efforts and pricing for what we got tonight we wont be back, he then become abusive as well.
do yourself a favor - give this place a miss. loads better places in the city and surrounds.

Read moreI came here for the dinner buffet with my husband and two children, as well as my work family. After reading some of the reviews, I was a little reluctant. Some of the negative reviewers said there wasn't enough variety, the food was tasteless, the place wasn't child friendly and that the buffet didn't measure up to some of the Sydney/Melbourne buffets.
Our experience, however, was nothing but exceptional. The service was fantastic. There was a variety of tasty mains and desserts that didn't sit heavy on the stomach. Some of the other buffets I've been to are Sydney Tower and Hobart Bistro, and I found Marquis to be up there. I wouldn't go back to the other two, but I'd go back to Marquis.
I had no issue with service around my children. Having said that, I never have in any restaurant. I supervised mine at the dessert buffet, particularly where the chocolate fountain was and made sure I followed them when they went up for seconds. As with all aspects of life, children need guidance from their parents on buffet etiquette.
We were booked from 5-7pm, but stayed until 8pm. This made a big difference in enjoying the company we were with as two hours would have been rushed. Definitely...
